Was curious to see if anyone is using the new IMR8208XBR in .308,6ppc,&.223 and their experience.
I have tried it in my Tango51 .308, Early Sako HB Varmint 6ppc, and a built HB AR in .223.
I used it to replace my standard powders of 4064 in .308,and N-133 in 6ppc/.223.
The powder meters very well out of my Redding measure saying within .1Gr and is easier and more consistent than both the 4064 & N-133.
In my test loads I used only Lapua brass and Federal match primers with SMK 168grn. in .308, 70grn. SMK in 6ppc, and 52grn. Match King in .223.
For the .308 I duplicated the factory FGGM load of about 2650fps in my rifle. ES was about 20fps and accuracy equal or better than factory loads in my Tango, which was built around that load.
In my old Sako 6ppc American (no turn neck)I duplicated Sako factory velocity of 3000fps with low ES. Excellent varmint accuracy shooting in the .2's. This was better than factory accuracy.
In my AR I loaded initially to 3000fps with excellent results (9 twist).
I had all loads within the Hodgen (IMR) load data manual range and saw no pressure signs shooting in 90deg+ South Texas.
I am going to change to this powder for all 3 of my rifles as it appears to be clean burning and not sensitive to temperature.
What results have you had with this powder?

Re: IMR 8208XBR Results

Is working great in my .308s 155L 22' barrel 2920Fps no preasure sigh or flattened primers. Single digit sd and es, sold all other powder stocks can,t find any reason to use any other powder in .223 or .308.

Bolt Gun IMR Test by a couple of fellow I shoot with

223 Ladder test .2g steps, 300yards, 80g berger vld, Lapua brass, Wolf Magnums, Krieger 1:7.7 @ 29", 7mph full value wind from 3oclock, 5 shots each from bipod

grains---avg fps---group size----notes

24.20 2932 2.25" 1.6"vert

24.40 2960 2.5" 1.6"vert

24.60 2992 2.8" 2" vert

24.80 3003 1.7" 1.1"vert - clear winner, 3 shots in 0.4"

25.00 3012 2.7" 1.4"vert

no pressure signs at all, could probably go to 3050fps if needed

"308 test was 45.30g with 155.5g Berger FullBore. 27" 1:12 Hart bbl, 300 yards off bipod
2953fps avg, main group was 1.9", vertical was .58" !! No pressure signs.
Cant wait to try this with some 175/185 Bergers.

Re: IMR 8208XBR Results

I've been shooting it in my Service Rifle, 2760 fps on a Hornady 80gr AMAX. 4.5" group from the bench with a scope at 600yds, mostly horizontal so I'm thinking the wind had a bit to do with the size.

Barely cycles the action though, burn rate is a tad fast for the AR15 series rifle.

Almost forgot, 2760 fps in Feb. and May for 10 shots, 50~ deg temp difference on the days I shot across the chrony

Re: IMR 8208XBR Results

Interesting, running in a CLE built upper/chambered 1/8 20" barrel 77 gr Smk 24+ gr Imr cycled fine? Burn rate like 4895 wonder why the difference in our cycling. Groups sub moa no preasure signs. My old load for RL 15 was 24.4 for 77smk

Re: IMR 8208XBR Results

I've been using it in my Savage 12bvss .308

26" 1 in 10 twist
RP brass
Wolf primers
178 grain a-max
42.3 grains 8208

I couldn't get it to shoot under 1.25" at 100 yds, but I moved out to 500 and started getting just under 4" groups and I'd call myself a novice at any distance so it will likely shoot better than that in more skilled hands.

I've found it to be clean burning and quite accurate in my 270 Winchester. I usually weigh each powder charge but this powder meters so well I just throw charges from my powder measure.

Re: IMR 8208XBR Results

notes from my (308 win) 155 lapua test with lapua brass and WLR primers, OAL 2.790" .005 shy of the lands. Bullets coated with HBn. Rifle wears a rock creek barrel about 21" with a shorter lead chamber.

43.2g 2773,2764,2745= adv. 2760
43.4g 2761,2784,2772= adv. 2772

jumped up to
44.2g 2827,2822,2832= adv. 2827
44.4g 2855,2839,2848= adv. 2847
44.6g 2848,2884,2885= adv. 2872
44.8g 2860,2850,2876= adv. 2862
45g 2885,2878,2896= adv. 2886
45.2g 2904,2894,2885= adv. 2894
45.4g 2894,2896,2889= adv. 2893

Very slight ejector mark on the following load, one of which was just a little snug on bolt lift as well.
45.6g 2899,2901,2910= adv. 2903

When loading these I had a compressed load from 44.8 on up.

Groups were good throughout, but 44.6 appeared to be my best.

Also tried 168's and it looks good to go there too. I just dont have my data on them at this time.

Re: IMR 8208XBR Results

it gave me pressure in my 6BR. it shot real good but speed was down compard to varget.

Re: IMR 8208XBR Results

Niles that looks simular to my 22" barrel speeds loaded to 2.855 .010 jump to lands, 155L naked. Just a suggestion if you have a chance try a cooler primer, I have run all the way in a OCW test to 46.1 with no preasure signs, but of course evere chamber is different.

Re: IMR 8208XBR Results

the other nice thing about this powder in my 223 is how consistent the #'s are... low es , etc
a little bit dirty but still only cleaning after 100 shots
ive used it on light as well as 77 smk and very good grouping

Re: IMR 8208XBR Results

I use this powder in 2 of my match 308s. At 600 yards my come ups are 10.2 moa. Shooting out of a 30" barrel 13 twist. This powder for me is producing single digit sds. I thought in my cases after firing it burns clean and meters like a dream. I get better results from this powder vs. Varget.

Here is the load.
45.5 grs
Fed 210 GM prs
Lapua brass
COAL 2.840
155 lapuas moly
