Hey all...new to 223 reloading for long range. Did some searches regarding IMR4064 as I was able to snag 1 lb if it to do some sort of loading. Anyone have good luck with this? Plan on using 75gr ELMDs through a 24” 1:7

Never tried it, 4064 is so good for me in 308/30-06 that is all I use it for, you'll likely run out of case capacity before you get pressure, but they may be very accurate, just slower. If hornady has data try it.

I tried it when I used to load for 5.56, i Can’t remember the charge but it was scary accurate. Like Jonathan said, you can’t get enough 4064 in the case to get into trouble. My loads were slow, I was shooting 75 bthp from a SPR at 2500ish.

IMR-4064 will take up way to much space in the 223/556 case to be efficient, there are many powders that will give you the results you seek, Tac, A2230, Benchmark, IMR-8208-XBR just off the top of my head. IMR-4064 works outstanding in the 243/308 Winchester cases

If thats what you have go for it, you have 24 inches of barrel your end velocity shouldnt suffer that much. I didnt try 4064 with the 75 grain weights but with the 68/69 weights it only ran about 50 fps slower than my Varget loads. 4064 is an old school powder somewhat over looked now but its always a reliable goto. As long as you dont mind dropping in the granules one at a time. AA2520 always gave me higher speeds with a little less accuracy and higher SD/ES.

Thats the powder that i settled on and 24.5 grains gave me slightly less accuracy but phenomenal speeds. I was getting close to 2850 from my SPR with no signs of pressure. Great load, i just dont shoot the mouse gun much.

Someone above said 4064 is an overlooked powder and that is spot on. I use 23gr behind 55 fmj for 5.56 for a light comp load for 3 gun and action rifle competition. Light recoil and super accurate. I also use it in my 22-250 with 55gr vmax, stupid accurate and plenty fast. Used it behind 130 eldm in 6.5 cm also stupid accurate. It’s a great powder. Try it and you’ll probably get good results. Like some others said though with the bigger bullets you will run out of capacity.
