Im in need of a new everday carry knife. I want something american made with a high quality steel blade. I also like a heavy thick folder style knife!

Help a brother out! Thanks guys!

Re: In need of a new EDC blade.

Kershaw is Amercan made but the company is Japanese owned. That being said they are a quality knife. I have a couple of the spring assist knives and they are rugged and hold their edge. I have been carrying the same one for about 3 years and have used it for everything from opening boxes to gutting game. All I do is take a steel to it once in a while and the edge comes right back to arm shaving sharpness. JMO

Re: In need of a new EDC blade.

Cool thanks..
In that case my vote is for Emerson. Have three and I'm a proud owner of them.
Great blades with many great features and great lockup.
*Mini-Commander (The name doesn't fit this, it ain't "Mini")
*Combat Karambit
*CQC 11

Here is the CQC 11 next to a 308 cartridge. It ain't little but it ain't cumbersome and it fits perfectly in the pocket and I never even notice them even when sitting in the car or in a chair.

Spyderco Military.. best folder avilable as far as I'm concerned under $150 for weight, size and how small it feels in the pocket for how big it really is. Lots of good ones out there for sure.. good luck in your search.

Re: In need of a new EDC blade.

My vote for a folder goes to Chris Reeve Umnumzaan, it has some heft to it. Just recently picked up a Hide Hunter which surprisingly isn't that bad to carry in the kydex shealth if you're looking for a fixed blade.

Re: In need of a new EDC blade.

+1 for the spyderco military or paramiltary.

Also the Gerber Applegate folder is worth a look, not glamorous by any means, but it's certainly a workhorse of a blade.

If I had to buy a EDC today, those would be on the short list.

Re: In need of a new EDC blade.

Wave feature Emerson. A SOCFK has been my EDC for the last 8 years, and they're US made. There can be a wait for them though as they're in high demand and are built in cycles per model.

Do you have a pic of the SOCFK?,I couldn't find that on Emersons website.
They may no longer have that model available.
Just currious as to what it looks like.

KnabstrupperUSA.
If you want to wait and sample a ton of good quality knives there are a few legit knife dealers that come twice a year to KnobCreekMachine Gun Shoot (Early April and mid Oct)including brands like Emerson, Benchmade,Strider, Spiderco,ZT,MOD,Randall and more good name brands that I am forgetting.
You can fondle, feal, flip, stroke, wave and caress all you want.
I have bought a few from the same guy for years.
KnobCreekMachine gun shoot is south of Louisville Ky but in the sticks.
They have about 1,000 tables of gear/guns/memorbilia/knives/swords/lazers/scopes/supressors/class 3 dealers/ammo dealers/military gear/hummers/jeeps/ duece and a half's,machine gun rentals, jungle walks with sub guns, assault rifle comps, and more I am forgetting about.
Cost $10 to get in and you can bring your weapons to sell, trade or whatever.

There are also some cheap chinese knife tables that should have "Junk knives" as their sign.

I hate trashy cheap knives.

Here is their site or one of them.
Don't pay attention to the date of the next shoot on their website(They havn't updated this page yet I guess), it's always the first weekend in April and the middle of Oct.

</div></div> I tried to take some pictures with my phone but it's not doing well on the closeups. They're an exclusive design for this distributor: http://www.extremeoutfitters.us/socfk-1.aspx

Mine is a green handled clip point plain blade. Absolutely the best knife I've ever owned.

Re: In need of a new EDC blade.

The wave emerson's are nice, just accept that it's going to be hard on pants pockets if you use the wave feature!

I had an old first run commander with the thicker liners/lock bar that was a tank of a knife, but the blade shape wasn't that useful for my needs. I do like that SOCFK though.

There are a lot of great folders out there these days quality has really improved even at low price points over the last 10 years. Reeve, Strider, Microtech, Benchmade, CRKT, etc. etc. Also a whole host of top end custom stuff that can run thousands.

That said, 99.9% of people can do everything they need to do with a knife and then some with a simple spyderco etc. and no matter how much you spend on a folder, it still won't be as strong as a fixed blade. Also the old saying that a knife is the worst and most expensive pry bar or screwdriver you'll ever buy holds true.

Re: In need of a new EDC blade.

I also carry the Emerson SOCFK. I am on my second one. I have one of the originals from the 2002 run, now I carry one from the 2007 run.

I like the Tanto point with partial serrated edge. This is hands down the best EDC knife I have ever had. It can open every box or letter I come across and with the wave feature I can open anything else that I might come across. I partially wore out the wave after six years but never the edge.

They also make the Super SOCFK that is a bit larger and might be what you are looking for but here in Colorado we cannot carry a concealed knife larger than 3.5” blade. I would defiantly spend the money for and Emerson knife and Ernie Emerson is a great guy to take a knife class from.
