I have a Interarms Mark X action with a mag bolt face that I would like to convert to a 308 bolt face when the barrel wears out.

An internet search did not find me many options and I am wondering if a mauser 98 bolt could be made to work or if there is another method out there that can be used to make a bolt face smaller.

My plan B is to convert to a smaller case with a mag case head such as one of the wsm or saum cartridges but was really wanting to go to the 280 Rem.

Re: InterArms Mark X Action ?

The Mark X is a commercial Mauser 98 action and a standard 98 bolt will work my 270 Win hunting rifle is that way. After assembly and before firing make sure you carefully check the function of the safety. You won't be able to use the extractor from the 300 WM so the 98 bolt will need an extractor.

PT&G has a 3-position mauser safety listed on their webpage that looks great and I think would be a great upgrade to a 98. I am a little biased as I like the 3-position Win 70 style safety, i think it is the best available on a hunting rifle.

You may need to change the follower and spring and block the magazine box if feeding is a problem as the 308 is shorter than the 300 WM.

Hopefully that covers the main points. More than you wanted so ignore what doesn't apply.
