While I personally would prefer to leave 'nukes' off the table, if (WHEN?) Kim's Rearry ILL starts something stupid then the reply should simply start with carpet-bombing. Of the likes of G.Bush-the-One'th.
Now, whether to start from the south and work up, or the perifery and work in, or the center and work out would be for "smarter minds" than mine to decide. The point though, is to absolutely get rid of the "pretend we're at war type doctrine" that has pervaded and damned-near destroyed the military here as it has. while i fully believe Lil' Kim is batshit crazy.......i really dont think hes stupid.
and he knows fully well that if he STARTS a war.....it is going to go terribly badly for him. he knows he cannot win any war alone.....he can barely feed his people, much less fight a war for any amount of time. more importantly, his people are defecting ant chance they get.....if he sends any troops over the border, they are all going to flee.
which is why hes doing exactly what hes doing.....trying to taunt us into a war with him......so that we appear as the aggressors, even though his country has been making the threats for the past 70 years.
if he can get the US or SK to "start" a conflict....they know they have a better chance of having the backing of russia or china.
so for the time being, hes not gonna do shit, but sit there and run his mouth.

If I was Japan and S Korea I ould start openly arming up with mega nukes right now. We should encourage them both to do that. This will force China to deal with their little friend.
Our military does not need to do much, S Korea can handle this situation, I would say they could handle China In a way that would keep them off the peninsula with very little help from us.
Any escalation to the use of nuclear weapons is gonna be an unmitigated catastrophe. The scale of destruction and death will not be limited to N. Korean territory, its simply not the nature of the weapon. Hell, we (the US govt) was (may still be) willing to accept the deaths of 100 million allied Europeans due to fall out from our weapons detonating in the USSR/Russia. As ugly as conventional warfare is, it is still far more preferable to the alternative.
To me, that piece reads as a simple political hit-piece. Get a couple of Dem lawmaker/vets to go on record, all too happy to state how the "mad man in the WH" is about to get us all killed, and how it's going to blow up any minute now.

As for the first paragraph, he's *mostly* not wrong. Americans have been scared by the media about NK's nuclear progress and new ICBM putting Hawaii and even the continental US at risk, but are utterly ignorant about PRK's artillery that will absolutely LEVEL Seoul and its millions of residents in the opening hours of a shooting war, to say nothing of launches toward Japan. *That* is the primary risk of a first strike action, not an untested low-yield nuke on missiles that have blown up more frequently than had successful tests.
I do think Gallego, like many progressives, think Trump is a stupid idiot and I personally *seriously* doubt that. I mean, what kind of stupid idiot plays the press like a fiddle for years and outmaneuvers the entire Democratic political machine during the campaign to win three Rust Belt states that haven't gone to the GOP since the days of Reagan? No, Trump realizes the risks and while I don't think he cares about his 'unpopularity', seriously doubt he wants his legacy to be millions of dead South Koreans and a decimated global economy because he wanted to show he had the bigger dick (I mean, 'button') to the Norks.

The solution is simple. Just send a bunch of ICBM's to explode over North Korea. Not carrying nukes but rather ten million pictures of South Korean Grocery Stores. Then The people of NK will solve their own problem.
