Ok, I thought I would make my AR10 more of a battle rifle and changed my optics from a IOR 2.5-10 FFP to a IOR 1.1-4, great scope and have used at 100 yards. I plan on using this at my local range which has a 200 & 600 yard lanes. My question is am I asking this scope to do to much at 600?

I have a SS 10x42 and also a Millet TRS-1 that I could use but man I like this little IOR but I think i am asking it to do more than it can.

Also since the IOR 1.1-4 has a BDC for .223 and I am using a 308 I am at a little disadvantage there also..

Just wondering on the opinions of which way I should go with the three scopes above..

I guess with the IOR I could at least hit the paper but not be real accurate is my thinking?

Re: IOR 1.1-4 at Long Distance?

You can shot a 4x out to 600yds but I would recommend a little more power, 6x would be the lowest top-end I would recommend for that distance. My rule of thumb is for every 100yds add 1x of magnification.

The IOR 1.1-4x are really nice and the 223 ret will be a little bit of a draw back. The IOR 1.5-8x maybe a better way to go.

Hope this helps.

Re: IOR 1.1-4 at Long Distance?

Yeah I should have kept my 2.5-10 IOR I had but hindsight is well... So I guess I can throw the 1.1-4 over on my AR15 (has an ACOG now) and put the SS 10x42 on the AR10...

The Millet TRS-1 will go on my 10/22...

Thanks, I think I like that rule of thumb you use..

Re: IOR 1.1-4 at Long Distance?

I will have to ask IOR but I thought I was told they would have a 1.5-8x for the 308.

I have also used the IOR 2.5-12x Spartan and it work very nicely. Here is a video of the IOR Spartan.

Re: IOR 1.1-4 at Long Distance?

There was much sniping done with scopes between 2.5 and 6 power.
4x might be a little low, but I would rather have a 4x with the clarity and resolution of an IOR vs. a 6x or 8x of less capable glass.
Are you going to target shoot with a 4x at 600 yards, no. Can you make good hits on an IPSC or IDPA target at 600 yards? Absolutely.
I depends on what exactly you are asking of the scope/rifle combo.

Re: IOR 1.1-4 at Long Distance?

I am running a 30mm 1.5-5 *20mm leupold vx3 with m1 turrets and spr reticle. The reticle is along the lines of an german #4 with a large circle and mil hash marks. It is very effective and we have easily gotten hits to 800+ yards. The scope has six revs and that equates to 90 moa(fyi a 308 requires 100 moa to reach a mile). We have also shot it quite a bit at night and as long as you have illuminated reticle it is outstanding.

I have one on a bolt 308 sps tactical and one on a 10-22(ar style), and one on a 20" ar-15.

Re: IOR 1.1-4 at Long Distance?

Not sure of others opinions on Burris Optics but I have a few that have served me well. I recently purchased their XTR Tactical 1.5-6x40 with the 7.62 reticle. I have not mounted and used it yet but it seems like a robust scope. I had the nearly identical scope but without the special 7.62 reticle, it was just an illuminated duplex. That scope was a solid piece for me so I expect this to be the same.

Re: IOR 1.1-4 at Long Distance?

I wish I could send the 1.1-4 to IOR and have a 7.62 reticle put in but I don't think they do that..

For now I decided to put my IOR 1.1-4 on my AR15 and the SS 10x42 on my AR10 I figure I can use that scope to learn with than later pick up some high end scope..

I just picked up a Millet TRS-1 used for my .22..that should be fun
