I'll post a link to the info in a bit

The first link is to the home page of the Colfax Gun Club, who host the match. There is basic info on the match at the bottom of the home page. The second link is to a thread at the dreaded AR15 dot com, where some of their members discuss the match in greater detail. Hope this helps. I too am in the Cedar Rapids area.

Iowa dude checking in. I'm in Waterloo.
Have you heard of Sureshot Range south of LaPorte City Iowa? John Fetzer is the owner. Goes out to 500 yards. Very nice pistol range too.

Is anybody aware of any places to shoot long-range (or semi-long range at least) in the central Iowa area? There's some decent public ranges but they all seem to stop at 100 yards.

Is that the guys farm near Mt. Auburn? If so, it is indeed a nice place to shoot. Only goes to 465 yds though, unless he's added some.

I'm sure I've checked in before, just reviving the old thread.

Rural Anamosa area here.

Good call on reviving this thread - SE of Cedar Rapids for me.

I use to live in Marion but ending up moving to South West Iowa. Cedar rapids is a cool place to live!

Glad to see this thread active. And the old forum back!
I live in KC but travel home to see my family in LaPorte City frequently.
If any of you guys in NE Iowa plan a shoot let me know as I would love to attend. I can bring steel with me if needed.
Best wishes from MO.

There are matches at the Sure Shot range near Mt. Auburn, steel out to 800 yards.

Hey Fellas - New guy to the forum here. I'm in the Des Moines metro area (just out side of)

Are there any competitions in Iowa this year? Read some about the Colfax area in 2012, it it still going?

Bettendorf here, anyone else local to the quad cities area?

Hey peoples. Frank Galli and Mark Tylor are coming to Iowa. They are looking at getting 2nd class together. Sounds like August 17,18. Get your name on the waiting list for the current class to be included in the 2nd class.

The High Lakes range north of Afton has had additional dirt berms added to the rifle range. There are berms every 100 yards out to 600 yard, and there is also a 500 meter berm, and a berm at 770 yards.

Range fees are still the same at $5 daily use fee or $45 for a yearly membership.

Here is our Flier for this year's Iowa Precision Rifle Matches. (IPRM)

We are hosting monthly club level, entry level, shooting matches at Sureshot in Iowa this year. We are trying to gear these club level matches towards the new shooters.

After Match Clinics

After each match we will be offering shooters the opportunity to go back on the range with experienced shooters and review a couple stages they had trouble with. Clinic fees will be and additional $20.

Last Place Prize

The last place finisher will get a certificate to come shoot one of the next 3 months matches for free. hopefully this will bring shooters back.

Short Range Match

We are offing a short range match in May to draw in the AR or shy competitors. Targets will be big and close.

Course of Fire Design

Each stage of fire will have a basic course of fire for the new shooters and advanced option for the guys that regularly shoot matches. Since the targets will be fairly generous we will need to challenge the advanced shooters with added positional options, movement, shorter times or fine motor skill challenges.

My daughter will be trying the April 11th match to see how she likes it, this is her first and sounds like a great way to get people that are new a chance to try, the after match clinic sounds ingenious too!
