Tried googling but didn’t come up with much. Can anyone give me some pros/cons on running a dedicated ir illuminator vs an ir filter to put on the end of a surefire/etc?

For hunting and general use is there really an advantage of one over the other?

Hi, your very best bet is to invest in a dedicated IR light. Placing a IR filter on a incandescent light, you will lose over 70-80% of the light itself. It's the most inefficient way to use IR Lum. Those filters several years ago was the only thing going at that time, but not any longer.

Hi, I would agree with the above a dedicated IR light (and or designator depending on your set up) is the more effective option. Wigwamtus in the NV thread has some good range reports.
