Looking for a base for my 338 Edge build, I'd like to have the capability to get out to a mile+ but will probably shoot more often from 1000-1250yds. I absolutely want a 100 or 200 yd zero on it.
I've got a Supersniper 16x in hand which is going on it right away, it has 122 MOA of internal elevation adjustment. I plan to eventually put a NF NXS 5.5-22x50 on it when I get the $ saved up. I understand the NXS has about 100 moa of internal up adjustment.
So I'm trying to decide how much elevation to get in my base, the numbers look good for a 40 moa base with 100 yd zero.
Assuming the NF gets mounted with a conservative 40 moa of UP, a 20 moa base would be like 60 moa up, and a 40 moa base would be like 80 moa up, and both should be able to get a 100yd zero.
JBM is showing I'd need about 65-68moa of UP to get to a mile, so I'm thinking the 40 moa base is the way to go.
Any opinions? Anybody used a 40moa base before and what's the down side?
