Re: Is an Atlas worth the jump from Harris, etc?

I moved from a Harris to an Atlas. Great product and Kasey was terrific to deal with. I would only encourage Kasey to branch out into other types of products such as tripods for spotting scopes and rifles. Plse tell us you have plans afoot ????

There are several manufacturers that provide a picatinny rail that mounts on existing swivel studs..

Here is a mount from Blackhawk that will provide the interface:

Seekins makes a good pic rail.

B & T Industries also makes a drop in that also gives you a flush cup.

so to answer your question......no you can do waht you want and are not stuck in one mode. </div></div>

Only the one from Blackhawk appears to bolt up with no modifcations to the stock though if you only have 1 stud in the front. When I ordered my A-5 I had no intention of using an Atlas since I had never tried one yet so I ordered it with just 1 stud for a harris, which rules out that Seekins piece unfortunately. I think I will try the Blackhawk piece and see how solid it is as I have no desire to drill into a $900 stock.

Re: Is an Atlas worth the jump from Harris, etc?

I have both as well and enjoy using either one, they both do close to the same but for me I like the looks of the atlas way better. Plus the footing on the atlas is a very nice soft rubber that seems to absorb the any movement. As far as the money, if you have extra just go for the Atlas.

If you have the dual studs like MCM stock they drop right in and as stated they distribute the load well. Have one on my A5 Edge

Your rifle is absolutely gorgeous. Even though it's not very functional in that position it just looks mean.

You don't live too far from TVP. Have you taken that 700 there?

Re: Is an Atlas worth the jump from Harris, etc?

I have used and like the Harris... the new Atlas V8 is superior.

They make aftermarket rails for it. I suggest the Seekins. It comes with different bolt patterns for HS and somebody else. Remove the studs and bolt the rail on, done.

Re: Is an Atlas worth the jump from Harris, etc?

Alright well I finally made up my mind last night. Ordered the Atlas V8 from US Tactical Supply and the AI spigot directly from Accu-Shot. US Tactical's website didn't say they were out of stock at the time of order but that doesn't always mean anything. Anyone know the current lead times on these or is B&T finally all caught up?

I'll have my scope back from Bushnell today, then it's just a trigger, TAB sling, couple other small bits and I can finally call this project done. (but then it's just on to the next one)

According to the directions, the letters on the Atlas should be facing the shooter. I don't know what difference it would make, but thought I'd let you know.

AND I agree, the Atlas is the shit! It is like comparing a Ford and a Mercedes Benz.

Re: Is an Atlas worth the jump from Harris, etc?

For those of you that have had both Harris and Atlas.....can you give me a shot recovery comparison? Is there more or less jump with one or the other?

I'd rather send my stock to McM and have them install another stud right than risk putting all the pressure on a sigle stud.

Re: Is an Atlas worth the jump from Harris, etc?

I just got a V7. The benefit of it over the Harris is it's much easier for me to load the Atlas which reduces recoil and makes it easier to see my shots impact the target.

Re: Is an Atlas worth the jump from Harris, etc?

Just to clarify-loading a bipod manages, not reduces recoil.

If you cnnot see impacts at 200yds or more shooting prone with a 15lb 308 using either bipod you need practice, not a different bipod.....

I do not want to see your shits impact the target... please keep that to yourself!

I know ill get slammed by some guys for saying this, but I do get faster follow up shots with the atlas. The harris has some left hop. Sure its probably got a bunch to do with the way i am behing the rifle, im not an expert by any means, but I have tried everything. Teh Atlas allows me to apply slight forward load into it allowing recoil to come straight back.

For those of you that get perfect recoil control with the harris, more power to you.

The only thing Im using a harris on from now on is my .22lr.

Well said. The AI spigot that I ordered from B&T will be here in the next few days although I don't have a timetable for the Atlas to arrive. Once it does I'll get some up photos of my (almost) finished project.

Re: Is an Atlas worth the jump from Harris, etc?

Exactly whatever works. I will say switching from the Harris (S-Type) to the V8 was the single best thing I have ever done to get a better prone position. Its also easier to load and the cant is perfect. There are some things I dont like about it like the pushbutton to collapse/change positions especially when it gets muddy. The wait time is not fun either. Kasey is kickass though.
