Merry Christmas Hidesters. Looking to buy Vortex Fury 5000 rangefinder binoculars. Anyone have experience with the factory applied balastics? Is it worth the $400 or better option to pass and use extra money for kestrel?

My friend has a pair with AB. They work well but the info was much slower to be produced compared to my kilo 10ks. It is still much faster than playing with a range finder then transitioning to a kestrel.

Really depends on what you are wanting to accomplish with the combo?

I use the kilo 10ks solo if I’m hunting, or field competitions, or just out having fun shooting rocks. For comps I use the kilos to verify range and the kestrel to provide dope. The kestrel is more accurate with the enviromental and thus produces slightly more accurate data for me.

If you hunt, but the ones with AB, it will be very worth it and will work great for recreation shooting as well. If in the future you feel you need the little extra precision of a kestrel buy it then but I would say most likely you will be very happy with the AB binos.

While I think the Fury 5000ABs are great (I have a pair and use them for field matches and hunting but also have a Kestrel with AB) since you're currently using an app, I'd suggest getting the regular Fury 5000s and putting the extra cash towards a Kestrel (or getting a set of Kilo 3000s since they'll pair with a Kestrel). The Kestrel will allow you to check dope and atmospherics whenever you want and you can use it to make dope charts you can then reference after ranging targets.
