The 416 is still a completely badass carbine, with major street cred among tier 1 units across the globe. But HK hates us and will only sell us a watered down civvie variant(unless you're in Europe/have access to the MR223).
Haenel doesn't hate us, and will sell us exactly what they'll sell to the Bundeswehr(minus a happy switch).

I have my sights on a CR6.5 but will see what gives at IWA (European Shot Show) and if new SAKO M23 (.308 ar10) is anything to fawn ower.

Just hope that H&K doesn't spoil the fun with whole CR line , in best case CR223 might lose the over the beach feature and in vorst case case to be produced all together.

German SF got HK416 A7 made for them , and A8 is the next model for Bundeswehr , I looks like civilian MR223 A3 with slim forend , with a different pistol grip and grenade launcher rail, will still take Haenel Cr223/MK 556 over it any day , might just snap one up before they are all scraped.

Sako so far has not shown any thing civilian but M23 - Ar10 clone is contracted in two versions one as SSR and another as a DMR , i would expect to see 'civilian' product showcased in both US shoot show and IWA , if its semi auto only i would expect it to be exact same gun.


Definitely going to IWA this year as finally , don't need vax proof like was needed last year and is still needed for US shot show (for travel to US)

Do it man. You wont regret it I guarantee you. Its a helluva rifle- probably the most advanced AR out there and sits at #1 as far as invincibility/indestructability like you said.

Unfortunately the 10.5 was the only one available to me(wanted the 14.5), but oh well.. I'll take what I can get when it comes to owning this sweet beast from Suhl!

The weight is balanced quite nicely unlike some of the piston AR's out there.



Thinking about possibly a B&T can for it to match(Haenel in USA, at least mine, is imported by B&T.. marked "BT-15" on the lower..)

Fun fact in German army trials they boasted 3x life cycle of any competitor albeit with barrel replacement but no other major components.

In terms of Euro cans would take Silent Steel cans over B&T any day of the week when it comes to semi auto flow trough designs , simple and servicable design that humiliates B&T when it comes to back pressure. But will see am planing a limited run of 3d printed inconel cans of my own design for semi/full auto use.*given the energy and argon costs right now i hope these drop a bit as they are a factor in metal 3d print cost

* have shot bunch of B&T on SCAR-H semi/full auto and even with their flow trough designs ,its beyond dirty inside to the stage where you can barely stick the 3rd or 4th mag into the magwell. Will take a dB less in silencing over backpressure any day.

In Eurostans we don't get to see much of US made suppressors as the paperwork/cost involved makes them $$$ over here and there lots of local manufacturers.
Metal 3d printed cans are definitely the future. Will see a lot more as additive manufacturing machines increase productivity and costs are dropping.

They have tons of manpower that they aint even started using yet. While Ukr will soon start running low on cannon fodder if they aint already.

Kinda like watching a boxing or MMA match, where the muscle bound guy(Ukraine- with all its western-backed might) go on a "sprint" expending all his energy trying to put his opponent away, vs. a cardio king(Russia- with not as much resources but is smarter and has learned solid lessons on wars of attrition throughout history) who turns it on in the later rounds after his opponent is starting to get tired.

In reality Russians have a deal with Europe's gypsies that collect all the dishwashers & Co. and they covertly smuggle its control boards to Russia via Transnistria (thats why 101st is there to conduct antismuggling operations) and then they build their Boreis, Kinhzals etc... Unnamed intelligence community expert was a source of info that on a piece of Kalibr missile they've found it was set to Color 40° ECO water saving mode and another that was used for deep penetration had setting of white 90° intense cycle. Both control boards were originally from Beko washing machine proving Turkey-Gypsy connection.

As with many things, chip manufacturing boils down to market demands and economic reality, as Russia doesn't have a large domestic needs or consumer electronic industry that couldn't just use the TSMC .domestic industry has never realy taken off in a big way.

They have their own chip manufacturing that is cca 20y behind what TSMC can make and domestic chip development that is a decade or so behind, they bought whole chip factories in Germany in the 2000s but like everyone else if you want to run a profitable business, have your chips made to order at TSMC , and as military/industrial grade chips are typically not the latest and greatest in chip tech like what you see in commodity products, they will probably have fewer issues with the chip shortage for military purpose than folk assumes. The latest imports stats show 30% increase in imports (could be taken as 30% cost increase) and a shift from majority German to Chinese (probably supplying the same German chips) imports.

Honestly, Russia doesn't have much in way of their own chips , but who does? Think just for a second while staring at a chinese computer and waffling on chinese phone, to realize no one realy has all the chips they use everything is globalised and outsourced to somewhere.

As most of the chips are not heavily regulated dual use items and sales are really not in the billions but like 2-digit million numbers so there will be lots of ways to skirt the sanctions using third party/country suppliers, for example, 'sanctioned' stuff reentered marked by going through UAE and Dubai traders and Iran has been importing US chips and components for its drones not to mention somehow keeping the fleet of US planes flying even tough officially they haven't been able to buy spare parts for them since 1979 !! .

So which one of these market leaders is a Western manufacturer? None , everyone is outsourcing to TSMC so the other China

Very accurate presentation of the situation with chips in Russia. As long as Russia can buy chips somewhere, there is no rush for Russia to build their own factories. Buying high tech products is always easier and cheaper. Another thought - US started "chips" war with China, and result is very predictable - China will start making their own very modern chips in very huge volumes, and that would benefit Russia in a long run.

They're not making any chips yet - the first factory in AZ isn't finished, and the second hasn't even started. 2024 is when the first plant opens, so hopefully Taiwan doesn't tip over before then.

what gets me is that Russian women are unfamiliar with chips until they come here. That's why they look like supermodels at first. Then they come to the west, discover chips and get sloppy fat.

It's pretty established that Eco mode only has a maximum flight range of 50km. Another reason all MIG 29'S have redundant tube technology. They have found that tide pods give a longer afterburner rate as well. It all makes sense now.

Russian adventures in the design and manufacturing of chips , the good the bad and the ugly :unsure: , lets just say they are not going to rival Intel or AMD any time soon , but in therms of military applications they can probably make it although it still cheaper to source western chips if they can , its just not enough demand there to justify making everything domesitcaly .


* the claims around Wagner i would take with a shovel of salt , the convict enlistment as far as we know was not quite as successful in terms of numbers , definitely not in the tens of thousands suggested.

Accurate statement! I will say however Taiwanese citizens are leaning towards a Bejing government. I have been on the ground there and talked to a lot of people there, and it's strange how many there think it will be all fine if they are governed by the mainland. Even the governance there is split on the issue.
