Is the Origin worth ditching the RPR for?

Ive been reading a few threads of the Nucleus and origin actions, but Ive never handled them. My ruger has been sitting in a cabinet waiting on a new barrel but I'm rethinking that idea now. Id love to have a do it all short action with multiple barrels and bolt faces but thats just not possible with the ruger. The way I look at it is that the initial cost will be off set by having 1 optic, trigger, stock and action and they ability to train with the exact setup I'd use in a match or hunting.

the calibers I'd be considering are 7mm SAUM, 6.5 CM and 224 valk.

whats the general consensus on the origin action? would it blow the ruger out of the water? fit and finish? would you drop the ruger?

My origin is easily as smooth as my tl3, and substantially better than any rpr I've handled. For the benefits you indicate above, it is a great choice.

Don't think though that it is the economical choice. With the different barrels and bolt heads, you'll be in to it for a pretty penny, even considering the origin is a "low-cost" custom action.

Are you in a hurry? If so, rebarrel the RPR.

My Origin "budget" build is in progress, but waiting on custom parts sucks.

I cant say I'm in a terrible hurry, The ruger has been sitting in the cabinet while Ive been playing with my elk gun. so really I'd be trying to fill that gap but also doing a slight upgrade. the 6.5 would come first and the other barrels would come later. i could even pull the barrel off my wifes savage while I wait but I'd have to be fairly desperate.

I'd really like to get my hands on one, I dont think Id regret it if its a leap forward from what I have. And it sounds like it would be. I'm going to run some numbers on other parts and see what itll set me back.

I'd say yes if you can afford it. There's a plethora of options for triggers and stocks/chassis. More caliber options, barrels, etc. Fit and finish is going to be better and it won't sound like a zipper when you cycle the bolt either. As far as barrel options go, there's a number of manufacturers that make savage pre fit's already and some that make shouldered pre fits for the Bighorn from $400+ with minimal lead time.

The origin is very nice for sure. What your thinking makes sense to me. I would ditch the 224 Valkyrie for a regular 223 Wylde though. The rpr is appealing because of price. I paid less for my rpr than I did just for my Mpa comp chassis.

The 224 is nice because it really doesn't cost a whole lot more than the 223 and I can shoot to 1k every time I go out. But I guess that's another discussion.

I think I'll give the Origin a go but I think I'll sit on the idea for a week or so before making any decision... trying to be wise and stuff....

The ruger has 800 rounds of 243 going 3100fps~ through it. Think I could get the full $825 to fund the action?

I agree that the Origin is the way for multi-cal and that it is very smooth. However, I still love the bolt throw on my RPR. Zipper and all. I find I prefer the shorter bolt throws over the 90 degree actions. My Ruger is 6.5 CM and it has never disappointed me.

Wow, that's pretty awful. I didn't know that they had gotten so cheap but I guess that's what happens when you buy in to anything new... Good to know though. I'll have to think on that one. It seems like I have a $500 gun on my hands Haha.

A 60° or 90° throw doesn't matter too much to me, I've used both quite a bit and don't know that I prefer one over the other.

I had an a RPR for a while. They’re alright. Shot a quarter minute with handloads. But it didn’t have half the action an origin does. I use a TL3, but I’m sure the origin is comparable. I dumped the RPR for a custom eventually and don’t regret it. That price I just saw on the RPR is sort of enticing though. Very decent rifles for the money.

I had the same dilemma with my Nucleus and RPR. In the end decided to keep the RPR. Didn’t hurt that the RPR outshoots both my Nucleus and TL3. All barreled by same builder.

Yeah this RPR is a rockstar too. I guess it may be worth keeping around but I would really like something nice. I guess that's life! I'll just take my time and do it right. Like I said I'm not in a hurry but now that I've followed this idea this far it's kinda hard to abandon.

It may be nice to have around as a back up or for friends to shoot. Makes me think I should put a .308 barrel on it just for the sake of barrel life.
