Is this the Final Tap

If they can just keep a drummer around.
Based on the trailer, that is a major theme...

I think they were up to 11 dead drummers. So can't find a drummer for the reunion.

The only thing I don't like is that the fucking retard meathead Karl Reiner is in it and/or directing it. I hate to do anything that will put one red cent in that POS' pocket. Fucking Communist.

But Spinal Tap is one of the funniest movies ever made. And the world needs a satire of rock bands that are now 60 years old and on stage with oxygen tents and walkers. It's %$#@ing hilarious!

One of the best lines in a great movie (Almost Famous) was "Look do you think that The Rolling Stones are still going to be making records and doing concerts 10 years from now? You have to make money now. Today."

Even in 1984-ish... the idea that bands from the '60's and '70's would still be doing tours in 2025 was as alien as thinking that Fat Elvis would still be relevant in 1980.

Can't wait to see how they do this. And from the trailer, I think the 'final concert' is going to make the movie a bit like Sorcese's 'The Last Waltz" which was supposed to be about The Band. But was really about Scorcese. Because everything Scorcese did was about Scorsese. So the whole movie was a bit of a flop for The Band. Though it made Scorcese's career.

THAT is a film that deserves to be lampooned! Bigtime!

I've never seen the first one. I guess now is a good time to watch it.

I've always heard it referenced, and that it is a good movie. I don't know why I've never seen it.

Not a good movie... way, way better than that!

Definitely see it.

That said, you sort of have to be a 'classic Rock' fan and an early X-er or a later Boomer to 'get it.' The references to the entire Rock and Roll community and to the trend for "Rockumentaries" (Stop Making Sense, The Last Waltz, Gimme Shelter, The Song Remains The Same, Tommy, The Kids Are Alright, Floyd at Pompeii, Woodstock) all did 'band profiles.' So you sort of have to understand the "Rockumentary" culture to really get everything out of Spinal Tap.

They lampoon everyone, too. Zepplin, The Beatles, the Stones, Jethro Tull, early Metallica and metal, The Who... everyone who was great back then! Definitely download/rent/stream/buy DVD...

By way of tribute to the movie... when I bought my first ever DVD player in 1998 or so... the first movie I bought was "This is Spinal Tap." The second was Saving Private Ryan.

I will definitely be re-watching the original before seeing the sequal.

PS. Also going to see Happy Gilmore II. The original was awesome! And the reviews are great!

Cheers,

@sirhrmechanic I agree with everything you said, most especially the part about Meathead (a true-to-life role if I ever saw one.)

Notably, among others, I am reminded of what Ozzy Osbourne said when he saw it for the first time.

"I thought it was a real documentary."

Everything in the movie has happened in real life.

One of my favorites is from David St. Hubbins exclaiming, "We have a Stonehenge that is in danger of being trampled by a dwarf!"

No spoilers… just a taste…
