I thought I'd better post some scores while I can. I only had time for three rounds, two at 200 and one at 300. The 300 yarder did not make my goal of 240 plus but I was really happy with my shooting because I was pushing 3.5 MOA left and then coming back to .5 right as the flag moved.
Sling shooting is sooo damn mental !!! The points I lost at 200 was all me...the one at 2:30 in the 9 ring was a total F-up
I let that one go before I was ready.

Re: JUNE 2011 SH 100 TO 300 YARD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Great shooting Berga. You seem to be the only one here consistently taking runs at 300 yds. Your ammo has been SM340 for a while at both 200 & 300. You also seem to be the only one here that consistently shoots it. I can see that it is accurate, but do you shoot it for others reasons as well? Readily available, performs at distance, performs better in cold altitude???

I have a 64MPR and have been trying to find the best ammo for it, but no one here ever mentions SM340.

If you have a minute PM your take on the SM340.

I am new to this Long Range shooting and specifically. LR 22lr shooting. I watch you posts and they give me "hope" that I can get there too. I am working on it and practice when I can.

Thanks Aquabot

Re: JUNE 2011 SH 100 TO 300 YARD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Aquatic_Robotic PM sent.
SM 340 gives very low SD'S in my rifle. I tuned it with my barrel tuner and my scores went up.

Hey Joe

100 may not have been as good as you wanted, but you smoked it at 200. Im out there practicing prone at 200 and the best practice run I've had so far is 235 with 5 x's. I would be proud to shoot your score at 200.

Good shooting

Re: JUNE 2011 SH 100 TO 300 YARD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Thanks, I guess that 246 isn't bad. The target just looked bad to me with the shot spread. I'll edit and post a picture of that one.

Re: JUNE 2011 SH 100 TO 300 YARD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

i miss shooting in the 240's - besides geeting through some bad ammo issues, i now think my scope is starting to crap out. ran some wolf mt through the rig, at 100 and 200. it's not as good as before, it's either the scope or possibly the barrel.

Are you using the same lot # as before?

Re: JUNE 2011 SH 100 TO 300 YARD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

negative. never had a problem with different lots with the wolf.

after checking all the usual stuff for tightness, it' either the scope, the barrel, hopefully not the shooter.

the same rig was under 1.5" at 100 doing 245+ on the tq-4, and low 240s / 239s at 200 using wolf.

now my targets are starting to look like i'm shooting buckshot, and shots are wandering around a bit too much. one more range trip, if results are the same, i'll maybe swap out the scope to see what's what.

Re: JUNE 2011 SH 100 TO 300 YARD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Thought I better post this one at 100 prone, as I am now practicing at 200 as time allows.

Aquatic, your Annie is a real shooter with the WMT ammo. I have a feeling you are gonna be 240 plus at 200 with that combo.
Iam watching out for you...

Score: 247-12x

Wind 12-15 mph gusting from R-L and shifting to 12-6 Hot and sunny. The 100 and 200 yd target, I had exactly 50 (1 box) rnds to shoot with so my first couple shots on both were sighters that I then adjusted for. I used Eley Club to get my dope, as I never shot this ammo before, and the black box shot 1.5MOA high on both targetsas compared to the Club. I am done experimenting finally with ammo and purchased 500 Lapua Center X to shoot with as an acceptable middle of road ammo. I shot the 50 yd tactical target with Lapua Center X, and would have cleaned if not for using the wrong dope on the Cold Bore shot.

Both scores increased so I was glad there, but still surprised at how the wind pushes this bullet around at distance.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: TOP PREDATOR</div><div class="ubbcode-body">i miss shooting in the 240's - </div></div>

I'm having the same experience with my MKII TR. Consistently shooting in the mid 240's and high 240's the last couple of time out at 100yds I'm now getting 5-6 inches of verticle stringing and 1-2 inches of lateral spread. =( . Same ammo, same lot, nothing in the equipment or shooting routine has changed. I've checked everything mechanical. Even looked at the stock with bright light and magnifying glass. Rifle is pillar bedded with 1/8 bottom metal, It likes 23 and 18 inch pounds on the screws. Groups with my 10/22 and 308 have actually gotten better so I don't think its me.

Just for grins I tested some ammo I had laying arround. I the past SK + has always produced great results at 50, 100 and 200 yards, with Wolf Match a close second. Federal Match never shot well and Rem subsonic was ok. Yesterday at 50yards federal was the best at just over 1", Rem Subsonic next with a vertical spread of 3" and SK + was a great pattern for an improved choke from a shotgun. I am soooooo confused.

I cleaned and lubed the chamber, trigger, and bolt, no improvement. Then I moved a Nikon 4-16 X 50 tactical from my 308( that is shooting under .5 MOA), no improvement.

I'm going to clean the barrel today using a Outers Foul Out after normal cleaning routine and start over. If no improvements Then I have no idea where to turn.......

HELP ! I am so open to suggestions.

Re: JUNE 2011 SH 100 TO 300 YARD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Hey hap,

you mentioned lots of cleaning. My best accuracy in all ammo I tested shot best after at least 25 fouler rounds after a cleaning. Just a thought...

Also, when cleaning the chamber, sometimes lead buildup on thelip in the chamber can effect accuracy and can be tough to clean without a reamer or something sharp/hard to dig it out.

Last thing I can think of is the tightening of the action after disassembling. Front first finger tight. Then rear finger tight. Torq front, then torq rear.

If still nothing, I reccommend pillar bedding. I did and it shoots amazing and I torq down to 55 lbs...And I know some people who re-crown the barrel and have seen improvements. Ever ding that up?

YMMV,
_DT

Re: JUNE 2011 SH 100 TO 300 YARD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

For my RWS R-50, I need 25 fouler rounds. A lot fewer with Eley... closer to 15. With that many fouler rounds, I can't justify cleaning the barrel often. Or switching brands of ammo often for that matter.

Re: JUNE 2011 SH 100 TO 300 YARD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

rifle is already pillar bedded. I know I will need fouling shots before shooting for accuracy.

I only attempted the cleaning after nothing else yeilded results. I will look at lip of chamber with light and magnifier. I did not look closly at it when cleaning.

Re: JUNE 2011 SH 100 TO 300 YARD RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Had a chance to shoot in the searing Texas heat this evening. Had two practice runs at 200 and one practice run at 300 a few days ago. Shot exact same score at 200 from the bench and prone. They were shot a week apart. Today I shot prone only.

I shot these scores thanks to Berga and his help.

I have no spotter. I can see impact at 200, but 300 is blind. My routine at 300 today was to fire a 5 round volley, check target with spotting scope towel off all the sweat, and send the next 5, repeat. I shot from the back of my Ford F-250 on a mat and used the tail gate runners to help load the bipod. A little funky, very HOT!!, but it worked OK.

Thanks for the recognition but you are the man behind the rifle. Nice job sir.
I would like to welcome you to the 300 yard match...it's been lonely. In a few more rounds I'll be chasing you...

Congrats to everyone the got the top spots on their matches. Remember it's not about winning as much as it is learning something new or enhancing your skills.

With July coming up, let's give a "<span style="color: #FF0000">Happy</span> <span style="color: #FFFFFF">Birthday</span> <span style="color: #3366FF">America</span>" and give thanks that we are able and allowed to do what we do and remember that as we bear arms that it is also a "double sweet" holiday.
