I guess I'll get over it.I'm through.Alan

Not to fan the flames, but I didn't get a dime of Federal grant money until I quit working. In-effect, the system punished me for having a job and trying to go to school at the same time. You'd be pissed if you saw what I get in just federal research grants now.

Re: Just a rant about taxes

Don't misunderstad. We don't mind paying taxes, but when people drawing wellfare, foodstamps,FREE HEALTHCARE,and live in government houseing receive a refund and don't have to pay property taxes, thats f$&%ed up.There are people who need these benefits, disabled, mentaly ill,or just down on their luck. But not career government leeches.I know taxes fund more than that, militay, schools, etc, etc, etc. But you shuold be punished for makeing a decent liveing.URRRRRRGGGHH

Re: Just a rant about taxes

Drives me nuts and is a great source of aggravation to see people that pay $2000 in get $5000 back. Okay their tax liability is less they should get their $2000 back but not my $3000 on top of that!

Agreed that the system is beyond screwed and broke!!!

Re: Just a rant about taxes

Flat tax will never fly, if you want to think its 'political' fine- lets not mention the not so small army with little political loyalty from the K-street lobbyists to the store front accountant. Lots of people heavily invested in keeping things just how they are, kind of like Healthcare. But lets blame a political party, easier.

If a middle class working couple has kids, they should get back more money than was withheld. if not perhaps next year they should visit that storefront accountant.

I think its best to not begrudge the super poor or super rich. no one here would trade their pride to be slathered in taxpayer money, and if really truthful pretty sure most here know the welfare free ride isnt as sexy as talk radio wants you to think.

YOUR taxes may go to support welfare queens, mine goes to support defense contractor fraud and double billing.

Re: Just a rant about taxes

I'm for a National Sales tax with a Corporate tax code for businesses. Everyone would pay tax whenever they buy something, even those illegals and vacationers.
The immediate effect is more income for the average person, the more he can spend. You don't get penalized for saving or investing money. It's gonna suck when you buy a car or house though.

Re: Just a rant about taxes

try living in australia I paid $32000 in income tax then you have 10% GST
and then they tax fuel
it costs me about $900 a year to register my car

the last speeding fine I got was for going 16km(10mph) over the speed limit it was a $750 fine

you think you got it bad come live here

oh and to top it off you have no right's and they can change the law any time they want and then back date it so what you were doing twelve month ago is now illegal , and they can nail your ass to the wall for it

ok sorry just had to say that

That just means you loaned the gov't $385 extra dollars. That's an extra $385 that you did earn interest off of, so who's the real "bi**h"?

Re: Just a rant about taxes

What I get a chuckle about, as a guy who makes tax payments every two weeks, every quarter and, if necessary, when I do my return, is the fact that 46% of the wage earners in this country pay <span style="font-size: 26pt">NO FEDERAL INCOME TAXES</span>, yet all bitch about tax breaks "For the wealthy".

With the various tax credits such as earned income, child care, etc, this self same 46% get back every dime withheld by the govt. as well as an additional sum for the above credits. Often a substantial amount.

In the meantime, the threshold of "wealth" gets lower and lower so that an S-Corporation that grosses $300,000-$1.5 million is considered scandalous for "Not paying their fair share".

While I usually chuckle at the ignorant mob of frenzied coveters demanding that more of their toys and joys be paid for by the ever diminishing number of producers, I also am prone to tell them to fuck off.

It's shameful for any able bodied person to peruse his wants while demanding that others pay for his needs.

The reason Flat or Fair taxes will never fly is that they are based on the same type of fantasy that got us into the deep debt we're in now: The motivation to punish.

Progressive taxation is ingrained. There is no changing it. A flat or fair tax wouldn't last two weeks before it's regressivity would be challenged by advocates for the poor. Just as idiotic and delusional is the nonsense about the potential revenue generated by the legalization of narcotics or the boon of revenue that will accrue to gambling and lotteries:Anything to keep the government tit amply full of lactate.

As nasty as our current income tax system is, many ills complained about would be rectified if the 46% of those currently paying nothing were put back on a paying basis.

Frankly, those paying nothing, like those who fail to vote, need to shut the fuck up.

As witnessed by some of the posts in this thread and the one in the 2nd forum there is a lot of misinformation floating around about taxes. It's pretty clear that a lot of the general population doesn't really grasp how taxation works, taking to the band-wagon approach to being critical of taxes.

I know how it work's they take the money from the successful driven people and give it to those who don't want to try and improve them self

but wing and wine that they don't have the thing that others have , they also believe they are in title to it and why should they go and work for it when the goberment will give it to them

What I would like to know is how much longer we can go on like this

this is not a dig at anyone here just sayin

Re: Just a rant about taxes

I have worked all of my life, I continue to work even though I am now retired. I don't like to sit on my nuts and do nothing and still do the farm.
I have some illegal aliens from south of the border that live near me, and as someone else posted here, have shown me their checks, food payment cards[food stamps on a credit type card] LEAP payments for help to heat their house, and told me about their kids getting free lunch at school.
They have said things like,"You going to work today Wado?' as I leave for work and they sit on their nuts.
I am sick of it!!!
They do some work on occasion, but nothing like I do and get paid in cash.
They drive MUCH finer vehicles than I do, and mine are paid for through hard work, but I would not buy nice vehicles like that as I have to pay for them myself, as well as buy groceries, pay utility bills and look at the bottom of my paycheck at all of the deductions. Health care is a big one for me and The Squaw.
They go to the emergency room every time someone farts crooked and brag about how it doesn't cost them anything.
They are getting all kinds of things for FREE that I have to work to pay for.
Am I pissed? More than you can believe.
Our taxes go where they should not and reporting people like my neighbor is like pissing in the wind, only you get dirty and stink.
We need to do something about illegal immigrants as we can't afford what is going on and it inflames me to have them flaunt what they have, as I go to work.
There is my rant. Regards, FM

Simply negating eleaf's statement doesn't necessarily make the opposite true.

My reply does not negate, nor does it refute. It posits a question that challenges what I consider to be a lazy and carelessly cynical statement about voting contributing to government corruption. At least I believe he was referring to the government.

You see it is very easy to utter simplistic statements. Hell, this is a shooting forum where this type of discussion is barely tolerated if not out right prohibited.

Let me leave it at this. While it is certainly fair to decry the abuses of government agencies, officials and the waste we all know is extant, it is down right slovenly to suggest that not voting will solve the problems caused by elected officials and the beaurocracies they ostensibly oversee.

While some may wish to believe that their every utterance should be taken as the word of God, in the real world even actual experts, people with real qualifications and training, are challenged by their peers.

Thus it should not come as a heartbreaking disappointment that someone would look at so casually vapid a statement as Eleaf's and then post a logical response.

Negate? No. Just a direct question directed at the basis of his fragmented and illogical remark.

I'm sure he is a fine individual, tired of watching lying bastards pretend to be more patriotic than those who actually put themselves in harm's way for our nation. And I can understand his frustration to a degree.

But come on bro, that little remark of his aint "Sermon on the mount" quality. And it was just sitting there like a Titleist Pro V on pert bermuda grass, waiting to be crushed by a hungry 4 iron.

Have you seen the struggle, making national news, going on in Wisconsin. Last November the state governorship, senate and legislature switched to republican majorities. Madison, WI is extremely liberal - often referred to as Berkley Midwest - and they don't like it.

There was a good thread started a couple of days ago about just presenting the facts on what's going on down there but it seems a few (namely the Huffington Puffers, Code Pinkos and Coz Kooks) on this board try to stifle any info of that type cuz they're on the other side of the fence and they started whining about it and had it deleted. Passing info is hardly political debate. Some folks just can't handle the truth.

What you see on the mainstream news broadcasts have little, if any, truth to it. It's the old "and then there's the rest of the story".

Re: Just a rant about taxes

AWE2,
The best advice I can give you is to NEVER do your own taxes.
Hire an accountant. A good one.

We pay a firm about $250 every year to do ours.
So far, the return has greatly outpaced the investment.

My wife is pretty good with taxes. She looks over the returns they prepare every year and just shakes her head in bewilderment.

They're not cheating. They just know the rules way better than we do.

Re: Just a rant about taxes

The same person has done our taxes since we married 12 years ago yesterday. Our kids could not attend tax assited headstart,or pre-k school classes, because we went to work and were white. If we were black, hispanic, asian,or any other origin it wouldn't matter how much money you made.Just because your white and go to work your kids can't go.WTF,Alan

Well that's not quite right. If the minorities you listed make a lot less/zero then they will qualify for things that you as a worker (assuming yo make at least a livable wage)don't qualify for. Does that promote laziness, yes but their quality of life is also lower than yours. It has nothing to do with race bud. (Maybe a little but not in the terms you laid out).

I think you can have your house re-valued and then pay taxes on the lower value instead. It would be worth looking into at least.

Re: Just a rant about taxes

I do not study much on tax rates/systems around the world but can any one point to a nation with a proven (at least 20 years) system of taxation that is better than the US system, and not on a road to collapse(spending more than what is being taken in)

I too would prefer a national sales tax over a national income tax. This would hopefully change how people purchase goods and services. It makes no sense to me when you cannot afford health insurance yet can drive a BMW
wink.gif
If they had to pay a national sales tax they probably would by a civic.

Taxes, I pay a lot ever quarter. I pay to the Feds, the state of GA, and up until recently paid the state of CA. One of the reasons I moved to TX is because I was paying 9.3 percent CA state income tax. Sales tax where I lived in CA is 9.75% and my property tax on a 2000 square foot home is 10,000 a year, yes I still own that damn thing (anyone want to buy a house?).

I don't mind paying my fare share of taxes, as a matter of fact I don't mind if I pay more taxes as long as I make more money. However, I hate paying more than my fair share. That was one of the reasons I moved to TX. At the time I thought that the Federal Income tax was going to revert back to Clinton era taxes and I would have been paying 39.3% along with another 2.5% for the new health care law. I felt like I was going to be swimming in taxes and bringing in less than I paid into taxes (all taxes). That's one reason I would like to see a National sales tax replace a National income tax. Rant over.

High Binder,my wife and I were told when we went sign up our kids in the tax funded or assisted programs, that we made to much money.I asked the lady there what you had to make to qualify for the programs.A family of 4 could not make more than $16,000 per year.If you were of any other race than ours,it didn't matter how much made, because you were a minority.Your kids would be at a high rate for failure.I am not any more racist than the next guy,and my kids do well in school without the tax funded programs, but they should have been able to attend.Alan

Wow, that reeks of a lawsuit. That's akin to state-sanctioned racism and ideas like 'affirmative action' are out. I think it may be worth looking into that a little more and perhaps getting some council on your side.

Asked some other people about the same problem, and some got in the pre-k program by enrolling their kids when they were born.I'm not jokeing.Thats thinking ahead. As for as legal action,we talked about it,and that was it.Guess I shouldn't bitch to much.Just a little.
