The immediate effect is more income for the average person, the more he can spend. You don't get penalized for saving or investing money. It's gonna suck when you buy a car or house though.

I too would prefer a national sales tax over a national income tax. This would hopefully change how people purchase goods and services. It makes no sense to me when you cannot afford health insurance yet can drive a BMW
If they had to pay a national sales tax they probably would by a civic.
Taxes, I pay a lot ever quarter. I pay to the Feds, the state of GA, and up until recently paid the state of CA. One of the reasons I moved to TX is because I was paying 9.3 percent CA state income tax. Sales tax where I lived in CA is 9.75% and my property tax on a 2000 square foot home is 10,000 a year, yes I still own that damn thing (anyone want to buy a house?).
I don't mind paying my fare share of taxes, as a matter of fact I don't mind if I pay more taxes as long as I make more money. However, I hate paying more than my fair share. That was one of the reasons I moved to TX. At the time I thought that the Federal Income tax was going to revert back to Clinton era taxes and I would have been paying 39.3% along with another 2.5% for the new health care law. I felt like I was going to be swimming in taxes and bringing in less than I paid into taxes (all taxes). That's one reason I would like to see a National sales tax replace a National income tax. Rant over.
