Got it off of Amazon for under $700. I just got back from a long range precision rifle class (Badlands Tactical...HIGHLY recommended!) and realized the importance of a good spotting scope. As soon as I ordered it, the price went backup to $1099. I won't receive it or the Manfrotto until Friday, but for $700, I'll take a chance. I have a Cronus 4.5-29 scope that has worked flawlessly for me so far.

I've had one of the Cronus Tactical 7-42x60 scopes for about a year; optically speaking, it's a pretty good scope. The focus & eyepiece diopter are a little stiff on mine in cold conditions, but then I've only used mine a few times. I've never taken the time to try to attach my Terrapin LRF to the Cronus, but the supplied adjustable top mount would make it pretty easy to get the two optics to co-witness. The objective cover stays put ok, but the eyepiece lens cover would be very easy to lose, unless they've made some changes since mine was made. At the very least, you need some sort of string glued to it and tied to the scope body or some sort of an attached, hinged lens cover to replace the original one. I haven't been to very many matches since I got this scope, or I'd have had to taken care of this issue by now.

From what I've read, the known issues with this scope have been fixed. I think the Cronus 4.5-29x56 punches way above its price tag, so when I found the brand new spotter for $697, I jumped on it. Cheapest I've found them is $899 open box. I just need something decent enough that allows me to see out to 1,000 yards. Oh, and I wanted a reticle.

I have the same spotter. Has worked pretty well for me. My only problem is that I haven’t been able to find an arca plate for it that I really like. I have a RRS one on there right now with a lip at the back, but still have problems with it coming loose and rotating. I wish I could find something specifically designed for it that would provide a more secure attachment.

The scope looks pretty decent. Definitely soft around the edges, but center is nice and crisp. The tripod should be here today so I'll actually be able to use a stable platform instead of hand holding it. For the price I paid, I'm happy.

That's my biggest gripe with that spotter as well. I have the RRS plate on it with the lip as well and it comes loose even though I loctite it. Spotting scopes shouldn't have the single threaded insert, imo, they should have 2 so you can mount a longer plate and secure it with 2 bolts. I'm probably just going to drill and tap a whole in the RRS plate so I can screw in a small bolt to stop the scope from spinning counter-clockwise on the plate and loosening.
