I came upon some old YouTube videos recently that brought back some very fond childhood memories. Memories of what "Kids TV" was like in the 60's and, specifically, what it was like in the NYC Metro area with what was WNEW-TV NY (Channel 5), now WNYW Fox Network,. They had some of the very best B/W kids TV shows. Sandy Becker and Soupy Sales had their own shows.

But what I found recently were the themes from two shows that played on the weekends. On Sundays, there was a Kids variety TV Show called "Wonderama..." where the initial host was a man by the name of Irwin "Sonny" Fox. Later on, it was taken over by a different host named "Bob McAllister." I don't care for the direction in which McAllister took the show.... making it much more "Kid/fun/playtime" oriented than Sonny Fox's more "educational" approach. He would have guests that meant something (witness the guest star he had in this video clip). He would do "spelling bees" with the kids. I loved it. The show ran 4 hours from 9am - 1pm on Channel 5.

See if you NY'ers recall this opening theme...

But this was not Fox's only show. Not many people remember that he had an additional show that played on Saturdays around lunch time. Not sure if it was also WNEW-TV (it might have been WABC-TV NY but I don't think so), He called the the show (as I called the name of this thread)... "Just for Fun."

    Enjoy the Nostalgia! ;)
