I haven't given up on my 77/22 but I just got a Remington 504 HB that will be used as a trainer. What a gun. Yes, they do have some problems but the weight (8.5 lbs) and feel are great. I even got an extra stock from Numerich for $46. What a deal. A couple of points that will save some digging around for anyone considering one of these things.
1) poor accuracy was the regular barreled models. Mine is in the 9,000 range. I'm going to mount a 36x on it this weekend and ring it out.
2) EGW will regrind a standard 541 scope mount to 20 MOA for an extra $10, so $49 plus shipping total. You may have to redrill some of the holes and the bottom will not be anodized.
3) I have compiled everything I could find on this gun, and how to handle the "issues." PM with your email and I'll send you the Word doc.
4) Buy extra parts from Midway. Cheaper for little parts than Numerich.
5) Order some 597 mags, put an additional notch in the front and presto, mag for under $10, instead of the $22 or so on Gunbuyer.
