I haven't given up on my 77/22 but I just got a Remington 504 HB that will be used as a trainer. What a gun. Yes, they do have some problems but the weight (8.5 lbs) and feel are great. I even got an extra stock from Numerich for $46. What a deal. A couple of points that will save some digging around for anyone considering one of these things.

1) poor accuracy was the regular barreled models. Mine is in the 9,000 range. I'm going to mount a 36x on it this weekend and ring it out.

2) EGW will regrind a standard 541 scope mount to 20 MOA for an extra $10, so $49 plus shipping total. You may have to redrill some of the holes and the bottom will not be anodized.

3) I have compiled everything I could find on this gun, and how to handle the "issues." PM with your email and I'll send you the Word doc.

4) Buy extra parts from Midway. Cheaper for little parts than Numerich.

5) Order some 597 mags, put an additional notch in the front and presto, mag for under $10, instead of the $22 or so on Gunbuyer.

Yep, mags suck. Mine is plastic. Ones on Gunbroker are potmetal. The 597 are potmetal too. What model did he have HB or Sporter? The sporters had a bad rep.

Well I'm still at it. The EGW mount came, beautiful. You libe up the front screw and that put the notch for shell ejection in the right place. You cut off about 3/8" (precision there) off the back end to clear the bolt. Then you have a clean area for the front/rear screw hole. The back/front hole will be close to an existing hole but I think it'll be fine. I'm going with 3 holes. Its a .22, it should be fine. In any case, this is a 20 MOA mount for what seem to be another rifle that isn't very popular.

I just ordered a 20-moa rail from Murphy Persision. The magazines that you refer to as pot metal are actually magnesium. I haven't shot mine yet, so I can't speak about magazine reliability or what not. The guy I bought my Target-HB model from also sent me a sporter stock and barrel, so I have those if I ever need them.
