My new bolt gun finally arrived and I put my older USO SN3 scope on it that I have never really learned how to use to it's potential. I figured I should join Snipers Hide and change that, right? I'm sure there will be lots of "picking of the brains" on here as I try to improve as a long range shooter. Right out the gate I have a few questions that hopefully someone can shed some light on. Does anyone else here have a T3x TAC A1 yet? I know threads like these are worthless without pics, so here you go:

Does anybody know what this little tool/dohicky is for?

When I fold the stock, the metal part of the stock that the butt-pad is attached to bangs against the metal receiver. Right where the stock hits the receiver there is that little hole on the stock and it just happens to be right at the spot where it contacts the receiver. Do you think they intended to put a rubber bumper that press fits into that hole but it was somehow left out of the production run?

Well that's all I got at this point seeing as how I don't even have any ammo yet, speaking of which, what do you recommend? Also I'm probably gonna need help setting the zero stop on that EREK knob. I've watched the videos which seem a little confusing. Hopefully it will make sense once I start doing it.

Very nice, let us know how it shoots. The cutout inside the tool looks like it's for removal of the shroud for the bolt handle replacement.

I don't supposed you would be willing to take the hand guard off so we can see how the barrel nut is configured? Just curious if these are set up similar to the RPR where the (competent) user has the ability to do their own barrel swaps.

I've done handguard swaps on the RPR before and it's nice that that rifle has an AR15 style barrel nut so it's pretty easy. I'll take a look at this one when I get a chance and report back.

can that buttstock change to AR15 stock ?

Yes, it will accept AR15 stocks and pistol grips

Why do we think this model has a barrel nut when none of the other T3X models do (that I'm aware of)? Is there something in the literature on this model that I missed?

I have a T3X CTR 6.5. It is an incredible shooter (completely stock, unmodified config), and I'll bet your new rifle will shoot even better with the longer barrel and nicer chassis instead of a cheap plastic stock like the CTR.

From what I can tell you are right. From looking at the manual, there is a collar on the front of the receiver that is held in with 3 screws, but that is to hold the fore-end. The barrel and top half of the receiver come off as a single unit.

There was no indication from Tikka of a barrel nut provided on this rifle. However, Tikka doesn't provide a whole lot of information on their products at all, so I was curious. From what Depolorable is describing it sounds like its their barreled action with a "clamp on" nut for the attachment of the handguard.

Deplorable-Is there any chance you could provide some pics? If not, no big deal. Thanks.

Nice buy. I came on here today hoping to ask about this very rifle. I'm starting to dip a toe in the long range shooting game. Let us know how it shoots please. This is going to be my next gun purchase. I just got a CZ 455, and will enjoy that this year.

How smooth is the bolt? I'm asking more about the lifting of the bolt lever and then securing the lever right before firing. Some guns take more force to accomplish this than others.

T3X actions (at least based on my Sample Size of 1, the one I own) are pretty stiff on bolt lift. I suspect a lot of that is due to the 60 deg. throw design. Some of this stiffness did improve as the rifle became broken-in however.

That is too bad. I will have to handle a few and see. I would like to know what bolt rifle out there has a not so stiff lift. It is a pet peeve of mine. I find my cheekweld moves when I'm putting too much force to lift or close the bolt.

I don't find it particularly stiff, seems pretty easy to me but I don't have a lot of experience with bolt guns.

I made it out to the range today and got it zeroed in and put a few rounds down range. Here is my best group at 200 yards, the square is 1". Not too bad but I'm hoping the rifle can do better once I get more experience. I was shooting the Hornady 140 ELD.

One thing I don't like is the cantilever mount I have on my scope. It worked well on my AR10 but I would like to move the scope back about another 1" - 1.5" inches so I'm going to have to get a new mount. I'm thinking about the LaRue LT112, which is a 20MOA one-piece with enough room for the USO T-Pal turrets to fit in there. What do you guys think?

You could try flipping the cantilever mount around 180 degrees, worth a try rather than buying a new mount if it's 0 MOA.

There's a NF 34mm 20MOA mount on the PX for $195 that might be okay (don't know if it's a good price or not, just remember it). I have a 3 crossbolt NF Magmount that I'm very happy with.

People I know that have tried Spuhr are happy with them. I like ARC M10 rings, but you might want a 20MOA mount instead of 0 MOA rings.

If you want to save some money and give up NO performance, and aren't swapping optics often, get some Seekins rings or Vortex branded Seekins rings. They pop up all the time on the PX here. (again 0 MOA rings, you might prefer a 20 MOA mount).

Skip any VERTICAL split rings, only go with horizontal; advice from an optics engineer that has tested numerous mounts.

I've been told it's easier to return to zero after removing an optic from the gun with torque wrenches and crossbolts than QD levers.

Hello ,
I just got my Tac A1 in 6.5 cm .I compete in local PRS matches and I was excited to try Seekins SP3R V3 rail on Tikka since it would have helped me with barricades and off hand positional shooting. Just like I did with my 'old' RPR. Fell in love with Seekins rail. So when I saw it at the Shot Show 2017 that Tikka was coming out with 'new' competition rifle to compete with RPR I was intrigued. Finally just got mine and I already had the rail from Seekins that I purchased from primaryarms.com and Tom there was outstanding. He told me if it does not fit he will reimburse me . No Idea why Tikka in their infinite wisdom did plate/nut that way...so that means that NO AR-15 rail will fit without that custom plate/nut on the rifle !!! Thanks Tikka for the shaft .

In the meantime I tried contacting Seekins by an email and couple of phone messages...silence was deafening from Seekins...I was :(((. All I wanted to know would it be really pain in the A... to create a barrel plate/nut like they did for RPR and to let me know one way or the other...again no response yet...If anyone from Seekins is reading this I love your SP3R V3 Rail. Please let me know if there is a Gunsmith out there who is wise & experienced in Lathe trade and can create one for Tikka T3x and all of us (me for now I guess) who would like to use Seekins rail for PRS matches.
Thanks. [h=1][/h]
