Just a question of morbid curiosity really...I'm definitely novice when it comes to "nice" AR's and the nuance of pairing premium parts. Is the practice of separating the BCG's from factory complete uppers when trading/selling/buying just as simple as if I were to get rid of a bolt action and part off the bolt? Maybe a bad comparison as some fitting may take place with a bolt and receiver but you get the drift. Does a KAC BCG hold an intrinsic value or uniqueness about it?

Again, pure curiosity here and if its an inside thing that goes too deep just say you're out of your element Donny.

Well, in the AR15 / 5.56 gun, most parts are interchangeable. You seldom, if ever, for example, need to headspace a bolt, but there are people who do that. It becomes very binary. It works (GO) or it does not (NO GO).

Again, this is for AR15 - M16 - M4 rifles. 7.62 is a whole different story. Most of the time, you can separate between forged receivers and billet. While you can mix and match, it is not a good idea. Also, some lower receivers have special ambidextrous parts, like Knights Armament and LMT, and they are going to fit better with their upper.

Otherwise, if you want to mix and match, go ahead. For example, we are a mostly a military correct M16 / M4 rifle company, but plenty of guys are buying Colt barrels and using them in lesser receivers and lots of other combinations.

In the case of Knight’s their E3 bolt is only compatible with the proprietary barrel extension KAC uses on their barrels, so the upper sold without BCG becomes “useless” to most people unless they already have a BCG or more typically a chrome sand cutter and/or chrome E3 bolt.
