Ketosis

Re: Ketosis

I live on one.
When i'm trying to pack on muscle i only eat about 200g carbs a day and half of that is from fruits.

Im very carbs sensitive so i stay away from them as they make me gain fat easly and i realy don't feel that good when taking in alot of carbs..

I don't think a true Ketogenic diet is a good thing as the majority of your daily cals from from fat , id rather have more protein.

the biggest problem i have with people doing a keto "diet" is just that , they go on a diet , they WILL have a rebound , if you want to make that way of eating a lifestyle then thats fine but don't doi it , drop 20 pounds and expect to keep it off by going back to poor eating habits. Focus more on making a lifestyle change than "going on a diet" unless you just want to drop some weight for a vacation or somthing

YMMV</div></div>

I have a couple buddys that fight MMA that do the fasting thing. They wake about 5am do an hr of low intensity cardio (110-115 heart rate)then eat a small meal at 4pm like 4oz fish and an apple train at 5pm then "graze" on meat and fruit till 9pm then sleep at 10pm,
They stay lean year round and seem to have plenty energy to fight for a hr and a half

Doing it now, after AAR photos from a shoot showed that my mental self-image no longer fit the physical one. I've punched off 14 pounds in the last 5 weeks.

you have to love meat, cheese, and salads. Fortunately I do.

Re: Ketosis

I have been eating a high protein, low carb diet for years. I am 6'8", 325 pounds, about 11% body fat. I can bench press 450 (not huge, but something), swim 3 miles, and run a marathon, so I guess it works. One thing to remember with such a diet is to drink lots and lots of water, to metabolize the protein properly.

Re: Ketosis

listen to what JJones said.

im not as scared of fats from a general health perspective as some people. for a full discourse on this low carb type diet plans and its relation to health search around for 'paleo diet' in particular mark sisson and his writings on it

Re: Ketosis

I've tried it. I was at 201 and dropped to 164 in less than 3 months. Just went very strict the first month (less than 15 grams per day) and then increased gradually. Now I way 170 consistently for the last year and I'm happy there. No more bread, beer, pasta or sugar. I've had hamburgers and eaten pizza on occasion but VERY sparingly. Obviously cardio 3 or 4 times a week makes a huge difference. Do judo 2x per week and stairs once per week and one road march per week with 60 lbs to stay slightly tuned for elk season.
