Hi All,
First post for me, hi all from Down Under. Ok, here goes.

Got some KG1 carbon cleaner. Seems good stuff. Also some KG2 bore polish (very fine, like brass polish) and KG12 copper remover (REALLY WORKS!).
My question is this. KG's instructions recommend using the carbon cleaner first. I'd agree. Then they recommend a session of bore polish, then that's it. They say rarely use the KG12. They claim that by using the KG2 polish, small amounts of copper are left in micro scratches etc in the barrel. I have had a go and can see this is true on my Sako 85 in 243. KG claim this means no fouling shot is needed. However, I presume a minute amount of steel must be polished off each time too. KG12 copper remover just washes the copper out in minutes (no abrasive). All of it. Therefore I guess you need a fouling shot before use. But you wont be polishing the lands with the KG12 copper remover.
To note is that the KG2 polich is super-fine, a grey liquid. I use a 22 cal nylon brush wrapped in a patch on my 243 with the polish.
What are your recommendations? Carbon Remover, Bore polish, finished? Or Carbon Remover, Copper Remover, Finished? (barrel flushed with electrical contact cleaner betweeen chemicals and wiped with oil prior to storage).

Re: KG1 KG2 and KG12 bore cleaners

I was just about to get into KG products when I thankfully found SH and talked myself out of cleaning ever again.

...

JK, but seriously I don't see a lot of people here get real crazy over cleaning. I have noticed my shots are just settling in about the time when I would previously have been scrubbing the barrel back out of hitting where I wanted. YMMV.

Re: KG1 KG2 and KG12 bore cleaners

The KG12 works well, but like others are saying, go easy on the cleaning. I got tired of listening to the clean vs. don't clean argument and break in vs. don't break in. Though clearly not scentific, let's just say I don't break in barrels anymore and I only clean the bore when accuracy falls off. I have one rifle right now that is going over a 1,000 rounds with no cleaning and still shooting just as good as it ever has.

Re: KG1 KG2 and KG12 bore cleaners

I've used KG before, plus a few other things, but given KG is toxic, as are many other cleaning products, and since I like my liver to be relatively healthy, I've switched over to bore-tech C4 carbon cleaner and CU+2 copper remover, not that I use the latter much. They are both excellent products These are a bit less hazardous/bit more green - they can be shipped by air (no hazmat), so can get them down this way without issue. I still wear gloves when I occasionally clean my rifles (unless I'm just using a bore snake). Anyway, depends whether you're happy to use chemicals, or grow another head or something ;-)
