Climate indifferent. Reliable trigger system. (I honestly believe this eliminates all 700 pattern triggers) Perfect feeding system, a barrel you can count on, and elimination of moving parts. Factory available caliber.

I feel like the AI AW is the end-all of this thread.

In the meantime: here’s my KISS rig with the most KISS optic out there the NF 3-15 F1. FN SPR A3G .308.

Not sure if that rifle goes anywhere but my El cheapo 270 rem 700 with crap stock and factory trigger ( the older style) has stood the test of time.

I've hunted from Montana to Michigan with it and it just works. Lost it out a window on a mountain, still killed an elk. Dropped from 15' tree stand. Still killed a deer.

Hell, it still rings my cold bore 500 yard target everytime.

When I got it it had sights on the barrel I took them off for mounting a scope and it still has the sight bases on it. That paired with a bushy 4200... And it just won't die.

You don't get any more simple than this rifle. It's due for a new barrel but has stood the test of time.

Very nice! The A3G is new to me as of Wednesday but I plan to take it deer hunting this fall.

The old style m700 trigger is grossly underrated. I love those things.

The weight and cost take the AI’s out of the KISS category for me, they are still near the top of the reliability category. Your SPR is probably the perfect balance of the KISS due to its simplicity, CRF, coned bolt, giant ass claw extractor and mechanical ejector. The top of the reliability category is a Mauser but the cost takes it out of the KISS category.

Negative. I bought this rifle to fit this exact role. Plus I was without a .308 bolt gun so there was a void in the armory.

I don't see how the OPs rifle is simple... It does not follow the KISS motif in my opinion

Honestly though, I think a KISS rifle should probably have iron sights. A cool modern example IMHO would be the Tikka Artic rifle.

If those feed from their own stockpile of Munitions then thats a ton simpler than having someone load it with a UALS.
