Hello all I'm new and this is my first post but I have done ALOT of reading here and picked up some great info. I've shot all my life and am an avid hunter. I found the hide looking for opinions and info on good optics for a sendero 300 win mag i am setting up for hunting and long range target shooting. (Counter Sniper he he he) The general consensus here seems to be NF.

To the point. For shits and giggles i bought a knock off leupold 3-12x40 illuminated reticle on ebay for $49 plus $30 shipping from bejing while i eat ramen and save for a ffp nf. not cheap. i have'nt recieved it in the mail yet but as soon as i do i will run it through some tests as described here using a mount and a cad plot to check the tracking. i will compare the glass to a vxiii lrt i own and slam it around with the win mag and some 210 berger vlds to see if it holds zero.

Questions:
Is it practical to use a milling reticle to estimate yardage in the field for hunting purposes.
I think the most practical formula for that is: size (in inches) x 27.78 /mils=range in yds. for an eighteen inch deer shoulder it works out to 500/size in mils. nice.

The 210 berger vlds have a great bc. anyone use them...like them...dislike them? i found some loads on here that someone got from berger. they are all hotter than what i have in my book.

Also anyone have more suggestions for tests on the leuppy knock off or know where i can score a ffp NF for a bargin.

I also read a thread about the new Bushnell 4200 ffp. I'm a little worried about Bushnells QC though.

You bought a knock off leupold, and are worried about Bushnell QC with a lifetime warranty?

Re: knock off leupold

good point jd in all reality i likely spent $80 on a nice paperweitht. i'm a little aprehensive about spending $750 on the ffp bushnell. I've never owned a bushnell scope but i have some binoculars that are bushnell from wallmart and they seem to be pretty good for the money. most people i know are of the opinion that bushnell is china garbage. i still may buy the 4200 ffp or maybe the ffp vortex they are close to the same price.

Re: knock off leupold

rocket........it is appearant that...although you are avid ,you are lacking in equipment selection.....and you are forthwith seeming to go about this in a very haphazard manner.....

my thoughts would be to secure the most expensive glass you can possibly bear....and correctly mount it on the most consistant stick you can get,,,,,and shoot the best ammo you can gin up and practice practice practice.....and SCORE yourself some knowledge here on the Hide and subscribe to the on-line instruction...........

Re: knock off leupold

I have a 3200 Elite Tactical on my AR15, great scope, great turrets, clear glass, and thats the entry level Elites. Some of the 4200s had limited elevation adjustability, so do your homework, but Bushnell is selling pretty good Japanese scopes, with a no questions asked 1 year guarantee,+ the life time warranty.

Re: knock off leupold

i read here or optics talk or both that the reason there are so many mk4 knock offs surfacing is that leupold has been outsourcing parts and assemblys to china. china has never heard of copyright infringement or intelectual property. i'm sure its unrealistic to think that this china junkpold may be to leupold speck but everyone can dream.

so ffp bushnell 4200 or vortex ffp? i'm leaning toward the vortex. are they out yet?

The Mk4 boxes all say Made in the USA

Re: knock off leupold

There is a loooooong post from last year I think titled "Totally disappointed with Leupold" here. Do a search and read up. It will tell you all you want to know (or didn't want to know) about Leupold's "Made in USA" claim.

Re: knock off leupold

Sorry buddy, but you will learn the hard way, or you might never learn. There are reasons people spend thousand(s) on optics. The fake4 will not only loose zero on every range trip, but also has a fake-dot that won't allow you to do any ranging.

BC caps you can get from state around $15~$18 depending on the shipping cost, why risk it buying from HK when you are one ramen away from buying one in the States.

Just my $0.02

Good luck~

Dyl..
