Just a heads up to the masses.
Krieger is accepting orders for barrels with 5-R bore profiles.

They have always had a gentlemans agreement with Boots to not do the 5-R. Boots and John have always been talking on a regular basis and recently the business end of things turned to a 5-R discussion. End result is that Krieger will now offer this cut rifled bore in addition to their standard 4,6 & 8 groove profiles.

I personally have never seen the 5-R, 5C, 5P, etc. bores out perform the standard Krieger bore profile but customer requests have been persistent. Krieger also believes that their standard cut rifled bores give up nothing to the other profiles, but in business, one has to offer what customers are asking for.

This will now be one more option that Krieger will have in addition to all of their already excellent offerings.

Good stuff for those not buying Kriegers just because they wouldn't run a 5-R.

No wind,
Terry

Re: Krieger 5-R barrels

While I cannot attest to what may have been made there at 3 in the morning after pizza and beer, I understand that there have been no production 5-Rs run before.

They are happy with the tooling and are now taking orders.

Re: Krieger 5-R barrels

Interesting. The Barrel for my DTA SRS is supposed to be a 1-10twist Krieger 5R barrel.

*Nevermind...could have sworn he told me it was a Krieger 5R

Evidently its not according to him.

I would like to see that for sure.

Krieger ran some 5R-30cal stuff for K.A.C. to help Boots meet a contract deadline for SR-25 stuff. They also ran some 7R-50cal stuff for the NAVY. Other than that, there was probably no 5Rs run. The DTA may have a Krieger but unlikely it is 5 anything. If you mark a bullet with your muzzle and count 5 lands, it is probalby not a Krieger.

I'm sure not the expert on any of this and learning everyday so check it out. Maybe get DTA to email you a copy of the Krieger Production report that they would have confirmed their barrel order with. It will show exact specs for how the workorder lists the rifling.

Boots Obermeyer....the guy that tells you on Aug 7, 2007 he will deliver you a blank in "2-3 months" and then keeps telling you "I haven't got to the 6.5's yet" and "remind me in a couple months", then 16 months later tells you his computer crashed and he doesn't have a copy of your order then 22 months later on June 30. 2009 he quits answering emails.... that Boots Obermeyer we all know and love? Wait over 2 yrs on his promises when I shouldn't have been so stupid and could have been shooting my Krieger for 20 months now!!!! He better hope those lucrative government contracts last till he retires!

Re: Krieger 5-R barrels

So Grasshoppa you are making barrels now? If so we need to talk. If so PM or email me some details as I am in the market for a 6.5 blank and perhaps more.

I is indeed my fellow SoDakotan. And you can have any caliber/twist/length/steel you want, as long as it's 308 1-11 twist 5r, about 20" long, CroMoly, and attached to a KAC SR25 upper and lower. HA!!

I am afraid your current products stringent specs and qualifications are not going to fit into my poorly devised project plans!!LOL
