Far, far away from home and craving traditional Christmas fare? No turkeys? Peace, grease, and KFC chicken wings, baby!

When I used to travel to Shanghai all of the time, I was always amazed at the fervor at KFCs. They were always busy and the locals used to ask me why I never went to one??? LOL

Spooky. I bought some beef strips and soba noodles that I'm cooking tonight.

I think we got rebels in the wire.

It's not my fault Veer. I went to the grocery store yesterday afternoon not knowing what I wanted. Walking from my truck to the door there was this asain chick's ass about 30 ft ahead of me. I walked out with flank steak, hoisin sauce & green onions for mongolian beef and strips, soba noodles and some veggies. It all happen before I knew it.

Poor bastards. ¥5880 for a roast fucking chicken. That's $51.83 in US greenbacks.

Food is expensive in Japan, but in my experience it is usually very good. I would be quite willing to wager that this is a much better chicken than we would be likely to find in a local Boston Market.

I lived in France as a student, as well as Spain. The food was INSANELY good, and the cost of living a bit higher. That chicken is apparently skin-stuffed with minced mushrooms and Parmesan cheese, but it still ain't a $50 bird, COLA offset or not.

Love my Samsung translation software! (cringe)

I'm not saying it is right, but the Japanese are used to paying it. In Tokyo there are many restaurants where most Westerners are not allowed, because the business tired of disputes and arguments when the Westerner got the bill. If you speak enough Japanese (or you are with a local) to convince them that you understand their pricing and are prepared to pay the bill you can get in, otherwise they politely refuse to seat you.

That's the fact, Jack. I visit friends in the Tokyo area about every 2-3 years.
Here's a picture I took on 5/26/2001: 6 apples for ~$21 USD. It's the only picture proof I kept of their fruit prices. I once saw a single canteloupe selling for 2,900 Yen in November of 1994. Today, that's $25.50 USD. And the USD is markedly stronger now than it was during either of those trips. These are all boxed as intended gifts.

It's been a couple decades since I was in Tokyo, but when we couldn't get seated at an establishment, we were outright called "Gaijin", threatened with them calling the JPs and shoved away. I can say with certainty it wasn't because of arguments over the bill as we showed them we had several thousands of yen on us and were willing to pay, they also didn't allow even local women in so I guess we weren't butt pirate enough for them. Or maybe it was something else...

Of course you are correct that their is a great deal of racism still in Asia. In Asia, being a racist is considered normal.

God Dammit. I just can't help but chuckle at the Thread Title. 'Might' add to this a bit later..............

Just in case you thought Santa forgot you when you turned old and gray, or even strayed from the flock.

Sure looks like Tucker wants to crawl up on his lap and give Santa his list.

I Just hope he doesn't mind chicken grease-smeared gloves and a faint odor of elderberries.

I don't know about the 'finger 'lickin' in this one.

Cheers,

Sirhr

That's just screaming for a Photoshop retrofit.

apparently its something like a 40 year tradition for the Japanese people. Its all because of an extremely successful KFC marketing campaign that has now been sown into their culture. Funny, I just learned this tidbit fact the other day.

Yeah, explained in the link in the initial post.

Here's a hands-on view of the phenomenon.

Ginger from Gillian’s Island ?

That'll work. I think Maureen O'Hara was the perfect example.
