Lake City Brass question?

I normally load Lapua brass for my .308 with good results. Recently, I was given a fairly large quantity of once fired Lake City brass. The headstamps are marked LC LR and a two digit year (ex. 03).

What do you think of this brass? What is the history of this? Is it the real M118LR? Thanks for your feedback.

Re: Lake City Brass question?

If you have been loading Lapua brass, you might want to drop the load a couple of grains and sneak up on it again. Lake City is wonderful brass. But the case voulme is slightly smaller than most commercial brass.

Nah, the brass is absolutely no good. Send it to me for proper disposal...Just kidding. While I don't have the LR LC brass, I have had good luck with standard LC brass. Thicker brass than commercial, so as mentioned you'll have to drop back your load probably 1-1.5 grains of powder to not run into pressure problems.

Re: Lake City Brass question?

Good stuff. No, not as squishy as Federal, but more so than Lapua. For my 200/300 yard line rapid fire loads I have to back off the charge by 2 grs to keep them from giving me sticky bolt lift....but, as I dont run megaloads at either yard line, not an issue. I do not use it for LR use though, but I shoot the snot out of the stuff for practice, short range, etc. Like the guys have said, we can dispose of it for ya. :)

Re: Lake City Brass question?

I use it quite a bit. With the standard brass prep steps (de-burr flash hole, uniform primer pockets), it's been very consistant for me. Volume is a little bit less than commercial as mentioned. My load is:

155 Lapua Scenar
LC LR 07
Fed 210
43gr R15
2.800

That load is slightly compressed and is good for 2750ft/sec out of a 26" barrel.

Re: Lake City Brass question?

I have access to quite a bit of the LC LR once fired brass. I've been loading it for a while I like to weigh the loades ammo, I know it's not really a true indicator of overall accuracy but it's one sign. The loadeed ammo runs less than 1 grain spread. It's worth getting some to try in your rifles, especially the LC LR or if you can find it the M852 (don't worry about the exterior knurling

Re: Lake City Brass question?

Thats what I shoot. It is extremly accurate out of my rifle. Not saying I wouldn't shoot lapua or norma but it does just fine for me. Not to need anything else. I'm on my 3rd reload, so I dont know how long they last compared to others. Good luck with them.
