Range Report Lapua's New 136gr 6.5 Scenar

Looking forward to trying these in the 6.5x47 L. The 130's and below have worked better than the 140's and up. Hopefully these will be just right.

Does anyone know or have heard yet when Litz plans to test for BC?

I think Lapua will probably publish a number that will be pretty good. As I understand their operation, they have doppler radar testing capabilities, meaning they generate some very good numbers. They do both G1 and G7 BCs as well.

Sadly, I had to pay twice that here in NZ, but thankfully I was able to get 3 boxes. I'm very excited to try these out!

Bump for an update. My 139s are running low and hoping to get my 136s soon.

Do you use Bushing dies? And if so what size are you having to use to get proper tension. I use Lapua brass and wanted to know so I could preorder if necessary
Thanks

I use a .293 for lapua 260 brass and 139 scenar

Load data for new 136 grain scenar.

Thanks pat for your info. I am loading 43 grains of h4350. Avg muzzle velocity is 2,928 fps. SD is 10. Loading .010" off lands.

Can you elaborate on what caliber, 6.5 Creed or .260? Also, if 6.5 Creedmoor, what chamber? 6.5 Creedmoor SAMMI or basic 6.5 Creedmmor chamber? What OAL COAL are you at with particular chamber?

Barrel length and manufacturer please.

The caliber I am running is 260. The action is a remington 700 action . SAMMI Specs. I am running a 26" Broughton 5c Barrel. Went to 1k today. Held 3 shot 6" group at 1k. I then went to 1,100 yds and 1,200 yds. Bullets were entering transonic flight and did not do well. Will Post more results.

Transonic at 1200yds if they get going at 2928fps?!?!?! That would be a really bad sign for the BC. If the G1 BC is 0.570 and you are at 1'k D.A., those bullets should still be riping at 1350+fps at 1200... A G1 BC of 0.50 still has then going 1200fps at 1200...

I have got to think something else is opening those groups up at 1200.

BTW Mac438, I like that rig of yours - nice setup.

Jbaily,
That's what i am thinking as well, Our numbers are close. My velocities were recorded with an oehler 35 chrono. Es is 22 fps, and sd was 10. I still need to rule out the es not being the problem. I was at 381' altitude . Barometric pressure was 29.5. Temperature was 98* f, humidity was 38.5%. I had a 180* 7 mph wind.(Tail Wind). I had a 6" rough estimate group @ 1k. Corrected for spin drift and coriolis. 4 th shot, just left of center mass.

I was using the g7 bc for the 139 grain scenar, because lapua has not published an accurate G1 or G7 BC yet. I was trying to collect data past 1k for bc and velocity calibration, however everything opened up past 1k. We did have two different range estimations from leica range finders, but i coulden't get consistent hits at 1,100 and 1,200 yds after watching bullet splash and correction. Using my average muzzle velocity and the g7 bc for the 139 grain scenar it put me right on @ 1k.During load development i had a load with an average mv of 2,883, es was 15, and sd was 6, but the groups weren't quite what i was looking for. I may work on this load again and see what happens @ 1,000 to 1,200 yds.

I still have alot of things to rule out and work on before saying i did not like what i saw past 1k.Attached is a pic of the target @ 1k.

Jbailey,

My loads were chronographed with an oehler 35 chrono and the drops to 1,000 yds were spot on based on my elevation adjustments, so i am pretty sure my muzzle velocities are close. I published my muzzle velocites @ 2,928 fps, but that was 18' away from the muzzle, so my actual muzzle velocites are 2,936 fps.Sorry for posting wrong data!

The atmospheric conditions i was shooting in were as follows. Temperature 94*, Altitude 381', Barometric pressure 29.5, Humidiy @ 38.5 %. I had a 7 mph 180* wind (tailwind) that was consistent. Transonic flight is when the bullet slows below Mach 1.2, somewhere around 1,340 fps depending on several variables. Based on my calculations @ 1,200 yds my muzzle velocity was 1,382 fps, so i was close . I was showing sub sonic velocities @ around 1,440 yds.

I posted earlier, but it did not come up on the thread yet, So i will comment now on several variables that could have caused the bullets to open up or act erratic. My load has an es of 22 fps and an sd of 10. I was running the g7 b.c for the 139 scenar, because there is not an accurate g7 b.c out yet from lapua, as far as i know. Running the 139 scenar g7 BC and my muzzle velocity put me spot on @ 1,000 yds ?.We had a 54 yard variation between two leica range finders. The bullet was possibly entering transonic flight and lost stability.

What's puzzling me is the great results @ 1,000 yds, then @ 1,100 and 1,200 yds, things opened up. I would see the the splash of the bullets , hold off or correct, but no consistent hits or bullet splashes.

I have alot of things to work thru before i believe the bullets are not stable at those ranges. I had another load during load development that had better numbers , but the groups were not quite what i was looking for. I may tweak that load again to see if i get better groups and es !. This was the first time i have taken the 136 scenars to 1,000, 1,100, and 1,200 yds, so i have a lot more things to rule out, but i did like what i saw @ 1,000 yds.

If anyone has any insight or has taken these bullets out past 1,000 yds, please comment on your results.

Thanks!

I shot these out to 1350 using the G1 BC of .600 out of a 260 Remington at 2800 fps. My SD is about 5 fps with my load. Made a remarkable number of hits. I hit an 8" circle twice in a row and 3 out of 7 tries. It was sub MOA out to that distance

We had good luck with this gun and a 6.5 CM shooting 140VLD's at 2830fps. Both loads not too hot, very low SD.

dworrel,

Thanks for the info, but i can't see the g1 b.c for the 136 grain scenar being .700. Did you mean .600? So was your dope consistent with what your ballistic program or range card was telling you or did you have to tweak the bc to get hits @ 1350 yds?

I shot my 260/136's out to 1000 yds last week, chrono'd thru a magnetospeed AND a 35p at the same time to average out my velocity at 2925fps
came up with a .600 G1, couldnt shoot any further

i shot a 136 this weekend at a 500yd groundhog match after setteling on an accuracy load. the 136 came in @25fps faster than the 140 Berger but shot exactly the same as place There may be a "slight" gain in BC over the 140gr berger farther away, bun i'll bet not much, and i'm betting on not being .700

i use:
40.3 H4350 for 140 Berger 2850fps
41.3 H4350 for 130 Berger 2915fps
40.9 H4350 for 136 Hoovers 2875fps

in my rifle the 140's are more accurate than the 130's printing many slightly under 1/2MOA 5 shot groups at 500yds and the 136's after the first shoot, didnt beat the 140's (yet?)
i have 130 loaded rounds of the 136's to finish out this years matches.

oh, yeah 6.5x47L

Sorry, meant .600. My bad

Have any of you guys done more testing with these?

Has Lapua given a good BC yet?

For the guys pushing these 2900+, at what altitude are you shooting? If these can safely be pushed at 2900+ with a BC of .600, then they would be worth the money for me. Thanks for the info already posted!

I'm at 310 feet running at 2835 fps
Shot out to 800m so far holding 6.5 mils

.03 jump to lands
41.1 gr N550
210 primers
Lapua brass
Uniformed pockets and flash holes

Good for .3-.5 moa out of my rifle

Never messed with the hybrids. I assume you are speaking of the Berger hybrids. My 136 load feeds reliably through aics mags

I shot these bullets today at a 100-800 meter range. It was factory ammo purchases from Southwest Ammo; COAL is 2.800. I got my data from Shooter; used .600 G1 BC, 2832 fps, 75 deg F, 55% rel hum (rough average for the time I was there), and 28.62 in Hg absolute pressure. Data was spot on all the way to 800 meters, requiring 6.3 mils of elevation at that range. I'm really leaning towards running these after I shoot up my 140 Hybrids.

Anyone with 6.5x47 running these 136's with R17 (or other than H4350??) find a good load you would care to share?

Any news on published BC's from either Lapua or Litz? Also would love to hear from folks shooting beyong 1K. Sounds like there was some concern up against the transonic barrier.

I'll be taking mine out as far as possible this weekend - I'll give you an AAR afterwards. So far, I'm really impressed but it remains to be seen how it performs at distance.

What barel length ad brand of barrel are you shooting these from? Was your dope similar to your 140 Hybrids? better/worse? I figure they may even out. Lapua can be psuhed faster, with a .600 BC. Bergers are slower but have the BC advantage of .618. If they even out it would be a good indication the BC for the Lapua is infact .600 or very close to it.

26" Bartlein. I'm running the bergers at about 2850 fps with 42.9 gr H4350, and have only shot them out to 600 yds so far. I'll let you know how the dope out to 600 compares when I get home tonight.

No problem. I think I'm going to tear down the 136 scenars from SW Ammo and develop my own load from their components to make a fair comparison. I'm sure i can push the scenars faster than what they are from the factory.

I finally was able to get this out to 1100 & 1200 meters. I am running FFS for my initial data gathering and it has been spot on all the way to 1000 meters. Once I shot out to 1100 meters though it seemed like my angle of trajectory took a drastic velocity loss at 1050m. I was able to make hits but my algorithm was off by 1mil. I then went to ATRAG to see what numbers were on that and it came up with the same numbers. So I'm guessing that at 1000 when I start to enter transonic I will have to start doing a Bc extrap to get a transonic algorithm. I will keep others informed

Lapua has finally published the offical Bc's for the 136 scenar L. The published G1 B.C is .545 and the published G7 B.C. is .263.Not quite the estimated .600 G1. It is published on there website.

I think the 136 is .274 g7 but still that is noticeably less than 139 .290 lapua or litz's .285

Yeah, I jumped on this wagon now I'm getting off. For more money I'm getting a lower bc? Nope going back to my 139s
