Photos of target I made are below. It measures 27" x 27" and weighs about 260 lbs. I set it up on the 600 yard range.

Uff-da! That ought to last a while. Just curious, why all the stuff out front? I would think the angle would suffice and you wouldn't ruin all that good cribbing. I use to have a 3/4 plate at a place in ND when I lived there. I didn't take near enough advantage of it at the time. I wish I had done more long shooting then.

I put all that wood out front to act like a sacrificial anode on a boat. I thought that If people shot low they could damage the actual base of the target. The steel angle is just 1/2" thick mild steel and probably would not stop that much, it's purpose is to keep the splash from destroying the base. The wood in front can easily be replaced as each is held in place by two screws on each side.

So far the target has been up about 3 weeks and not a single low shot.

I can tell you spent some time there! All my family is from there and I laugh every time I hear somebody use it.

Now that is a target. Nice job....wish my range had something like that to shoot the living sh*t out of.

Very impressive.

Man I thought that my 36"x36"x 1/2" gong was big. That should last for a long ass time! Would hate to have to build a hanging stand for it and to put it back upright if it fell over.

That was my theory too. The two bolts that you see in the front are connected to separate pieces of chain which independently attach to the eye bolt in the post in the rear. My theory is if one bolt is shot off the other chain will hold plate in position until a new bolt is installed.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">That post behind it will take a beating.</div></div>

I would think so too that's why I screwed an extra 2 x 4 over the post behind.

Frankly I'm suprised no one has shot it up at all yet. But then it's only been up about 3 weeks. I stated early that not 1 single shot has been shot low into the wood I have in front of the base. Everyone I know who shots long range can hit the target pretty easily. I shoot it with a 16" barreled OBR 556.

Also to shoot long range in our club you have to be certified by the club to be allow to shoot more than 200 yards.

No such thing if you have the parts.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Those smallish 10x10 plates too hard to hit?</div></div>

They are 8" x 8" and yes not everyone can hit them on the first shot. They prefer to shoot large steel and see if they need to make any elevation or windage adj. before they shoot the smaller sighter targets.
