Just want to see if anyone uses an OBR for 3 gun comp. The reason for asking is because i am heavily considering buying a Larue OBR 7.62 16'' barrel. From what i have researched it would not be the best choice but that it could work. I have never shot in a three gun comp. but i have been to one before and most of the guys shot the .223 and for good reason (recoil) and other reasons. I would not be trying to be a champion i just think it would be fun to do. Anyway.... any opinions and advice is welcome and i really just want to know how effective the Larue obr 7.62 would be in the 3 gun or if it would just be something i should not even attempt. would it be something that i could only compete with in the heavey steel? Just looking for some general info for this topic. A buddy of mine shots the three gun every now and then and he has sprung my intrest for this sport but i am getting the OBR 7.62 and just wanted to see how viable it would be for the 3 gun. Thanks in advance for the advice and comments. and yes i am new to this competition and gas guns.

I'd look at the JP .308's to be honest. Must more 3 gun oriented while keeping precision rifle accuracy. And the side charger would be a great boon to you in malfunction regards vs trying to screw with the normal charging handle.

Re: LaRue OBR 7.62 for 3-gun Competition?

I would use a PredatAR over the OBR due to being 1.5 lbs. lighter. It would still be accurate but not having to run-and-gun with a heavy profile barrel and the heavier rail would be the ticket. Using the 308 would put you in either Heavy Optics or Heavy Metal divisions depending on what your other equipment is. You could run the OBR in three-gun but just think it's too big for action sports. JP are fine rifles but if your set on a LaRue get the PredatAR...

I know several guys using the OBRs and PredatARs in He-Man and doing quite well.

I am using a 20 inch OBR 5.56 in Scoped Tactical and hold my own.

Just put in an order for a Predetar and am switching over to Heavy tactical in the outlaw matches. Been shooting tac optics this whole time. Should be a good challenge.

If I read your post correctly, you are already getting the OBR and want to know if you will be able to use it in 3 Gun. The short answer is yes. As long as you can shoot it safely and accurately and it is reliable then you should be good to go. The OBR will take care of the last one and you have to handle the first two.

You will probably be in the Heavy Metal division and will have to follow the equipment restrictions in that division, but you can make it work.

Shoot it and have a great time.
