Lawmakers in San Francisco Want to Allow Residents to Sue Grocery Stores for Closing

Stores throughout greater San Francisco have been closing for months. Major retailers have ditched the city, as well as pharmacies and grocery stores. All mainly due to crime and theft.

Now lawmakers in the city want to allow residents to sue grocery stores for closing.

This is completely backwards. The city could stop all of the theft tomorrow if they wanted to by simply enforcing the law. Then the stores wouldn’t close in the first place. But that would entail admitting that the left’s policies are wrong and don’t work, so they’re going after the stores.

The New York Post reports:
San Francisco lawmakers want to let city residents sue grocery stores that close
A pair of progressive San Francisco lawmakers are pushing a bill that would allow residents in the crime-ravaged city to sue grocery stores that close up shop if they don’t give six months’ notice.
The proposal by San Francisco Board of Supervisors members Dean Preston and Aaron Peskin would require business to either find a successor grocer or work out a plan with residents in the neighborhood to ensure the availability of supermarket options.
The Grocery Protection Act – which is based on a proposal the board approved in 1984 that was vetoed by then-San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein — comes amid a rash of retail theft fueled by the city’s drug and homelessness crisis that has led to several business closures.
Whole Foods closed its Market Street location last year after there were 568 emergency calls lodged in a 13-month period due to incidents such as vagrants throwing food, yelling, fighting and attempting to defecate on the floor, according to the New York Times. At least 14 arrests were made at the location.

This video shows some of the major retailers who have left the city in recent months. It’s amazing that the city allowed this to happen.

The city is in a doom loop and things will get much worse before they get better.

HILARIOUS!
NOW EVERY RETAILER WHO IS THINKING OF LEAVING OR CLOSING WILL BAIL BEFORE THIS BECOMES LAW SO THEY DON'T GET TRAPPED BY THIS INSANITY!
FAFO!

Good!

GTFO while the getting is good and don’t look back!

They voted for this! Let them stew in it!

True fascism is when the government tells you that you can't close your business. The whole idea of fascism is that it's a partnership between big business and government. That is literally the definition of the left party, and it's actually a moderated version. Most of them want to "seize the means of production".

It's time to bring civil suits against these commie policy makers.
That way, the public doesn't fund the lawyers and awards.

It's too bad the DA's would never allow the suit to proceed.

At this point, leftist NPCs only deserve one thing: Desertification of their own posh little neighborhoods. Time and time again they vote for and contribute to policies that put millions of others across the country in danger, and they have mostly escaped responsibility for it.

So let them have to ride a dangerous, junkie filled commuter train or bus 1.5 hours each way just to buy daily essentials. Nobody owes these fucks anything. Business owners do not have a pact with neighborhoods. They can close or relocate as they see fit.

On the one hand this is clearly unconstitutional, absurd, and is contrary to all principles of sound governance as well as being a massive disrespect for the private property rights of the business owners.

On the other hand, the Bay Area digging itself deeper into a hole is simply one more manifestation of the inherent failures of Leftist policies. Their cities suck so bad that they have to force people to stay.

Mark my words, California will sooner build walls on the borders with Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona, to keep their own people in, than they will tolerate walls on the border with Mexico to keep outsiders out.

California will become America's East Germany complete with the wall.

If I lived in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, or Texas, I would strongly consider leaving while I was still able to sell my land for a decent price and get out. The main places to get out of would be California, Oregon, and Washington, but any of the border areas or the places being overrun by illegals are also great places to get out of.

I've seen some awesome and beautiful ranches in Texas, right along the Rio Grande, which should be tens of thousands of dollars per acre as they have everything, water on site, legal access, etc., but instead they are about $1,000 to $2,000 per acre and still nobody buys them, nobody wants them, the owners cannot give them away [except perhaps to cartels if they so chose]. Eventually all of Texas will be a frontier border war zone, but I digress, because if the invasion is not stopped then eventually the Mississippi River will be the new Rio Grande.

What's the next step after that? Suing companies for not having opened stores there in the first place?

That's actually some very creative thought right there. That's an idea that is sufficiently "Californian Leftist" to qualify you for a role in California's government, probably in the AG's office.

Call me crazy, but shouldn't these lawmakers be solving the problems that are driving business's away rather than trying to punish them?
I've been to CA a few times, lots of beauty there but damn its full of stupid liberals.

Have you ever watched The View? That’s San Francisco City Council. That’s how they solve problems.

They have already done that… with their so-called “redlining.”

Half these stores are there in the first place because their management was called “racist”
And they were denied permits to build in economically sound areas… unless they build in shitholes.

Realty companies/lenders, pharmacies, Grocery stores and insurance companies all got hit for redlining and forced in to economically unsound areas.

It’s part of hat caused the 2008 housing collapse.

Do-gooders again. Or maybe just greeedy opportunists who know how to redistribute wealth, especially into their own pockets.
