Hey Y'all;
I am wondering if anyone out there has experience with a Leatherwood M-1200 Scope. I just got one recently for my 338 Lapua, and ended up putting it on my 30.06 because I don't have the cam settings for the Lapua. Unfortunately, all the data I can find on the internet seems to be for the M-1000 scope, and there are several fundamental differences in the settings and such on the two---at least to my unskilled eyes.

Thanks,

Re: Leatherwood Scopes

Ran one on an AR for a few years. (5.56 NATO)
The CAMPUTER BDC system was within 4 MOA.
Glass quality was good considering it is a Chinese Made Product.
I would rate the product slightly better than a BSA scope, but not as good as a Sightron.

I ended up changing that scope out with a Leupold Mark 4 with M3 BDC Knobs.
Much more accurate and versatile setup.
I can move this optic to three different guns by just re-zeroing and changing the elevation knob.
The BDC system is MOA accurate as well.

Re: Leatherwood Scopes

Leatherwood was state of the art c. 1960's.

Now more of an interesting novelty. I have an old ART scope on an M1A, because they seem to belong together. It's interesting, but not all that practical for accurate shooting.

Realistically... it was a good idea, but making it work in the real world just didn't pan out. They are more novelty than a great shooting scope.

As Dr. Phil says above, there are some better systems for BDC. The compensating knobs are one solution. Some reticles are designed for compensating.

But the best is probably getting a good scope with a good reticle and quality mounts... then buy a databook, record all your shots and know your Dope*.

Cheers,

Sirhr.
