So Cal
...that's not the Rem 700.

Putting my thoughts together for a short action tactical rifle for competition and smacking steel to 1200y or so. Talking about 2 years down the road.

I know this much for sure:

Manners stock (thinking T4A)
6.5mm (either 6.5 creedmore or 6.5x47L; not the 260 as I already have one in a sporter config for hunting)
S&B optics (maybe the 3-20 will be out by then...either way it will have the MSR reticle)
angled base
Bartlein barrel (maybe 22-24")

My issue is the receiver because I'm a lefty. I've looked at GAP, SAC, Badger and AI and don't see any left handed bolts.

What action can I get in a lefty that is durable, tactical competition oriented and of course, black.

Maybe Defiance Machine? What smith/company could fit a Defiance action to a Manners stock with DBM capability? GAP?

Sorry for the lame questions, but this would be my first build of this type (have a couple custom Coopers and HS Precisions already.)

Thanks

Re: LEFT HAND short action

GAP can build left handed rifles all day long.

The Templar action is available as a lefty.

Stiller and Alpine also have left handed actions available.

Pick any smith you want, they aren't prejudice against those of us shooting with the "correct" hand.

Re: LEFT HAND short action

You can get a GAP in left hand. I recently purchased a Badger M2008 in left hand and am putting a rifle together. Defiance Machine as was mentioned as well. You can also look at Barnard Actions. MT Guns imports them. I've got a left hand Barnard Model P for my F-Class open gun. Barnard also makes a Rem. 700 foot print action. I've haven't looked at one but feel it might be worth checking out.

If you go into the F/TR competition part of the SH forum and look up the thread that says Bartlein sponsors the US F Class Open Team you can see a picture of my rifle that I posted.

Re: LEFT HAND short action

If you are not wanting an action tomorrow I'd probably wait on the Surgeon Lefty 591. Rumor has it that they will be coming out with one in the future. Just something to think about.:)

Re: LEFT HAND short action

Thanks everyone. I kind of like the Badger action. I know GAP does awesome things, but does the Badger compare?

I already have a 338 LM so no worries there. You might think I am doing things backwards, but I have a Cooper 243 AI that I was using to 1k but it's more of a varmint configuration and I am now needing to fill the short action tactical rifle gap. Plus I'd like to start doing some of the practical competitions.

I have a Bartlein barrel on my 6PPC gun and it shoots amazingly well. So well, I was splitting playing cards at 100 with it the other day.

Re: LEFT HAND short action

The left handed Stiller's that I have are fantastic. Don't have any experience with the other brands listed but I'm sure you would be happy with any of them.
