hi im new so if this is not the right place please let me know....

i was looking for a IR laser that i can top mount on my ar, i looked at the CQBL-1 laser and LaserMax. I don't mind if its just IR. I have seen the LaserMax UNI-Max and it looks ambi, but i have no idea. my friend has the Dbal with out the light, just laser and i cant reach the button very well i have small hands, and would ave to side mount it.

side notes...
i use pvs-7 gen2
i have a surefire Vamp light but if there is a all in one deal i wouldn't mind.
i dont want pigtails, wires or motion sensors.... smaller the better
i dont need laser past 100 or so.
im in Michigan but from the "show me state" of mind so pictures would be help me more
if some one has the LaserMax and knows if there is a lockout switch that would be nice to know
i seen some one from TNVC post a new mount with the CQBL-1 and it looked ok but i would love to hear from someone Lefty.

I run the LaserMax UNI MAX IR on several rifles, and it is ambi. I usually run it with a pressure switch though, which you can put anywhere you want, then I use those itty bitty zip ties to secure the wire to the hand guard so it cant catch on anything.

There are way cooler lasers out there, but what I like about the UNI is that they are cheap enough I can throw one on several rifles and forget about them. They add no weight, and take up only 3ish rail slots. It can pulse or be constant on. It is pretty durable, which is deceiving if you go by looks. I use it on my rifles that often see clip-on night vision devices because it keeps the weight down and I am not a super manly dude.

No lockout switch.

I thought Missouri was the "Show me State"?

I'll try to get you some pictures.

I don't sell them, but I do buy them from Amazon because of the whole free two day shipping deal, and they are worth the money in my opinion. Would it be my primary method of aiming at night in some dumphole like AFG? Nope, but I'm good with abusing them for chasing hogs, and more commonly armadillos and coons around.

thanks for the info. at the $150ish range its not the big investment that a $1k laser, im just did not know if they have the range. no need to post a picture if its a hassle, the gun store near me has the red laser one and its small but i did not know if the LaserMax would be good or is there something worth the 1k plus... I will just save the extra cash and get closer to the gen3 pvs14.

thanks again when I get gen3 gear i will consider getting a laser that will survive a dumphole...

also Missouri is the True "show me state" but I am so visual i just stole it and just say the "show me state of mind" even if i live in Michigan.

I have two of them. I originally purchased my first one based on IR-V's comments. One is mounted on the top rail as the rifle only has a 1-4 power scope for sights. The other is on the right side as the rifle has a front sight.

As far as range, it would be as bright as any other class 1 laser. I don't know about 2nd gen but with 3rd I can see it out to about half a mile. Not that it would be useful anywhere near that.

I do believe it has a very tiny lock out switch. At least that is what I think it is. It's so small you have to look close to see it. I'm going out in a few hours so I'll check into that. I have never had any need for it as I use a pressure switch. I understand your wanting to keep it simple, but I also think you would be better served using a pressure switch.

Now that I think about it I have three. I have a micro-ir on my XDM that I had Pete at I-2 Tech tune down for me. It just doesn't get used that much. No pressure switch on that one.

OK I just checked and there is a small slider switch that turns the laser off. You need a small jewelers screwdriver or something similar to move it. Not something you would want to do in the field. Maybe for transit or storage.

Also, I re-read my original post and edited a comment that could be misinterpreted as a jab at Delta4-3's integrity. Far from it. Delta4-3 is a stand up guy that has been quick to answer my personal questions, has offered to loan me his personal gear to try out and has made a tremendous sacrifice for our country.

No worries! I didn't see even see it, and if I did, I have thick skin in most places! I appreciate the candor. I didn't know about the lockout switch.

eta: Not much in the line of sacrifice here, I got paid for my troubles so it was a pretty fair trade!

Thanks,
Aaron

first things first, thanks to all of you for your help. i have been a voyeur here for some time and seen Delta4-3's willingness to share knowledge so thanks again.

that said the last time i used a tape switch was 2003ish and they did not work in the field without messing with them a lot... there have been some surefire ones that looked ok but im not paying $100.00 plus if there not very good, I'm a A55 when it comes to noise and light discipline so i have to be on my A game when it comes to those situations.

also not to change the topic but i talk about surefire gear a lot because its what i have and use but i am in no way affiliated with them, if any thing after seeing how 20-30 dollar lights work i feel like i over payed for their lights $150&300 and up to 1.50 a battery. i carry a $5.00 cree light that uses a AA and lasted 2 years (battery was rechargeable)

Hey thanks for the compliment!
Mitch were both right (I think) in a sense. When I told you it didn't have a lockout switch, I was looking at one on my desk with no pressure switch, just the factory tail switch. It didn't have a lockout. I went and got a rifle out of the safe that has a UNI with a pressure switch. It does have a lockout switch, which is located on the piece that replaces the original toggle switch.

On a side note, I am pretty sure I have the same flashlight. It blows peoples mind that it is so cheap. I keep a couple in all my vehicles, bags, etc. I have been using them for a few years and haven't had one go down yet. I dropped one in the creek one night while gigging frogs (yes, I am a redneck) and found it about an hour later and it still worked. I have Surefire's on my rifles, but those little lights are great for every day use, and ridiculously bright.

I have a suppressed Browning buckmark that I pulled the barrel on, cut it down to 3.5" and threaded it. It has the Armasight MCS night vision compatible micro red dot sight and an IR UNI on it. It gets used at night more than any other gun I have because I can silently go kill all kinds of little critters with night vision on and not alert the neighbors I don't have, or scare away other potential targets.

Hello guy,
My question to you is this: Once you've isolated a particular purpose for the piece of equiptment your considering now
what sources besides the common knowledge of some are you researching?

Archer, i dont understand the question. but i was just looking for a ir laser that fits the setup above and wanted to know if i needed to spend the cash for the 1k plus or would something cheaper would work. i tryed to explain my set up as best i could other than optic (eotech 512, or 1-6swfa) but i did not want to use an optic with my pvs7.

but if your asking how much research im doing other than the youtubes and what i just did the answer is none, one- its only $150 and two its ambi. three if it fails i can consider higher price options D-BAL, or my last option but one i know will work is some "liberated" peq2 from ebay but i dont want to go that way for many reasons.

sorry for not answering sooner but i (paintball, fish, hunt, swim, get off my ass...) all weekend.

if not answering your question i will need you to be more specific. i have a version of what my fiance calls "textpergers" from urban dictionary...Noun. A condition wherein a social media user or person having a conversation via text is unable to determine whether a remark and set of remarks is intended to be sarcastic, or in which the context or tone may be misconstrued, without the use of aides such as "lol" or a select set of emoticons, thus rendering them socially inept with regard to such mediums.

outdoorsman, thanks but that looks like it might not mount on my AR as effectively. but thanks for the info on lasermax, could you describe the shift or was it random, and or did you talk to the company or others?

I've never had any POI shift issues with any of the UNI MAX's (4-5) that I have had, which is not to say it can't happen. I have noticed that if you push on it with some force, it will shift, but it has always returned to zero after I let off. Lasermax has some other IR offerings in the works, but I don't know when it will hit the market.
