I got a pair in meters a week ago from Alex at Europitics. I wanted to use them in the field for a while before I offered up an opinion on them. I had a pair of Ultavids and replaced them with these. I really like having the range finder in the binos. I am getting fast and consistent readings out to 1150 meters. We are in a winter wonderland right now so the conditions haven't been great. I have got some readings out to 1375 meters off of some hills so I am impressed with the ranging part of them. The glass is super clear...but I have to be honest I wish they were brighter. They are not as bright as my Ultravids were in low light. They seem to have an amber colored tint to them, at first I wasn't very happy with them. After a few days in the field using them I have gotten used to the change and I am very pleased with them. Like I said it has been some tough glassing conditions lately, I finally got some better conditions this afternoon and I can spot critters just as good with them as I could my Ultravids. All in all it was a good upgrade and they are great binoculars.

Re: Leica 10x42 Geovid HD

Did you get a chance to try them in the subzero temps we had,
and may have again, this weekend.
If you get a chance to compare against the 10x Zeiss, would
love to hear about it.
Thanks for posting your comments

Jack, I believe they are assembled in Portugal. I received a pair of the HD 10x42's recently and believe I saw that

I would really like to see the HD's. I have a pair of the old style Geovids and they are amazing... I have yet to have one of my friends look through them and not love them.

The range finder seems to be good, but I've never owned any other LRF to compare it to, so I don't really know what expectations to have. I do wish it had a slightly smaller box though.

Leica makes one hell of a sturdy product though. Nothing about them feels cheap.

Re: Leica 10x42 Geovid HD

How is it to run with winter gloves on? Also how are the ergonomics compared to the Ultravid? Is it push down the button to activate, then push again to get your reading or a button release system? Thanks.

Re: Leica 10x42 Geovid HD

I too would like to hear the winter gloves report as well as what you think about how the button works. Does it push hard making it difficult to stay on deer size targets at a distance?

Re: Leica 10x42 Geovid HD

ran mine all coyote hunt the 4th thru the 6th with gloves on... worked great. No problems at all.

Well I've had plenty of sub zero weather lately, and I really don't have any complaints about how the ranging button works. If you are wearing bulky thick gloves it might be a problem. Ranged a coyote at 805 meters in -15 weather the other day, on a wide open flat, with gloves on. I had a Swaro 8x30 and I wouldn't go back. I like the ranging reticle way better in the Lieca's and now that I have it all in one unit I could never go back.
