I am thinking about buying a pair of the 15X Leica binoculars that CameraLand has on sale with the rebate. I have a pair of 8X56 SLC Swaros. And I really like the binoculars. I also have a smaller pair of 8X40 Zeiss to use in tighter places. I am considering the 15X56 for varmint hunting(mostly ground hogs). I always hunt from a fixed position so weight of glass is not an issue. I am just wondering how steady the 15X glasses are??

I was going to buy the LRF 1200 after X-Mas this year. And having the LRF in the binocluars is a fantastic idea(I think). What do you guys think?? Thanks, Tom.

Re: Leica Binoculars

I've heard the 15X really makes ranging easier since your target is so much larger (twice the size of the 7x CRF).

Oh, and that guy that posted right above me, he's a great guy to call for some excellent deals on Leica stuff.

Thanks, Doug.

Re: Leica Binoculars

I have a pair of 7x42mm Geovids and have used them for prairie dogs, easily ranging and shooting them at more than 700 yards. 15x is more magnification than is practical, since you need to use your binos to search a broad area, identify and range, then handover to your rifle scope. Identification and possibly ranging might be easier at greater magnification, but searching and handing off to your scope are not.

PS I forgot to mention that my Geovids were handheld, but resting my elbows on my shooting table.

PPS Oh yeah, Geovids are way better than a monocular LRF for prairie dogs!!

Re: Leica Binoculars

I got a pair of the 10x42 from Doug as well. GREAT GLASS GREAT DEAL! Before I pulled the trigger, went to Sp. Whse. here and did am impromptu side by side test of the 10 vs 15. IMO, ya GOTTA use a tripod w/ those suckers. Nice glass, but way too shaky for my old eyes. You might be okay for your intended use. GL.
