Hunting & Fishing Let’s start a coyote thread.

Only critters that ever come to fawn distress are...deer!
Funny enough of the last forty or so coyotes I've shot only one was running to a call and that was fawn distress. Also brought in a deer at the same time lol.

Small one today at 423 yards:

Off topic and I posted the story in the small varmint thread but I did recover one beaver this weekend:

I haven't been able to get out in the field for a while but decided to get another coyote decoy. I got the Montana Coyote Decoy.

So to keep some of the neighbor's dogs from pooping in the yard, I put it in the flower bed in front of the house.

It's two sided and this is what it looks like from the window. Imagine the joy your friends will feel when they see this outside their house in the morning when they get up!

Some dumb ass might shoot your house. Maybe put a plate behind it?

he looks pissed.

Target of opportunity this morning.

The wife had stepped out on the back porch and was doing some deer watching, so I grabbed the binos and my coffee to join her.

The deer spooked and were alert to the back fence and we weren't really sure why. Thats when we saw this female step out in the pasture. I keep an old throw down ar in the barn for just such occasions. I ran in and grabbed it, and when I came back out she had just stepped back out of the woodline. Not sure if she was headed for the chicken coop or the ducks that stay around the pond. Either way, she done now.

Doesn't appear she's ever had a litter of pups. Despite the rough fur, she was plenty healthy. At least 40-50 pounds.

The 60gr vmax did a fine job at 200 yards.

Cool shot with blood still dripping.

Shorts and crocs...
That's Casual Friday.

Not very big. I sort of hated shooting him. He was jumping around at fireflies...I mean, that's my guess. They were all around and he was jumping and biting at something. He was VERY active. I waited quite a while for him to take a breather. 295 yards using my 223 Ackley but with standard FEDERAL 53 grain VMAX 223. Fire forming. We had just had about a 3 minute downpour.

Right there behind the leg, heart/lung...I've never had an exit wound and they all just either drop or flop. This one leaped about 3 or 4 feet straight up and sort of circled a few times and landed like that. He was far enough from the house, I just left him there for the birds and bugs. If they are closer to the house, I drag them far enough away that the birds and bugs can decimate them before we smell them.

I go out and sit in my shooting shack for about an hour almost every night or just before light in the morning. I get 1 or 2 a month and all I'm doing is watching, no calling, just watching with the HALO XRF. I just can't seem to remember to turn on the record function.
