Thought about trying the 77gr smk but after seeing what it did to my deer this year I won't use them when I want to save fur. The exit had a piece of lung the size of my hand hanging out of it.
Are you referring to an exit on a deer or coyote?
I sank a perfect shot behind the shoulder on a deer last year at 26 yards with IMI Razorcore 77 smk .....deer ran....light blood trail....did not recover but found a week later thanks to buzzards
I don't care about fur, competing in a coyote competition in 2 weeks.

Just wondering if Razorcore 77 SMK will expand/drop dog or should I just bring the 26 inch 6.5cm bolt sliding 147 ELD-M's at 2858 fps.

This was out of 5.56/.223 and not some wildcat correct?
I say this because that exit wound is impressive for any 5.56 round.
Blood trails from .243, 6.5cm, .270 and .308 were far better this year and all years previously for those calibers compared to my one experience using a 77 smk out of an 18 in AR.
I did shoot a fairly good size buck and possibly bullet angled and hit shoulder on inside when exiting. The only reason I even used my SPR barreled AR was because my 6.5cm bolt was all torn apart from me switching chassis and doing a custom grip install (MPA vertical on an APO Saber).
Would you mind sharing barrel length on your rifle, load data/factory load and velocity if you have it ?

My chamber is a wylde chamber. With my 24in barrel I'm getting 2780fps with the load I worked up using varget with Hornady brass and CCI400 primers.
Well, late start yesterday as I had to help the wife get on the road, a little snow and ice around. I made it to the farm at 7:20 and was on stand shortly after, howled one time, nice quiet mourning, and about 8 minutes or so this female showed up at around 160, took her, reloaded and sat a little bit longer, I do not shoot with a can , but with mating season picking up, you never know. Then at about 10 minutes, a male showed up at 250 and was not heading any closer, rushed my shot like a rookie and missed, shot over him, da..., anyway, here is a pick of her.. 22-250, Charlie112

I noticed this on the fur I took yesterday in Missouri, seems a little early , but, it is what it is...
For you guys that often call in snow and want removable camo for your rifles, go to a local farm and ranch store in the horse section and get some white 3m VetWrap.
It sticks to itself and doesn’t harm the finish on your stock or barrel.

It's also dirt cheap, unlike "camoform" which is basically the same thing with a pattern on it. It also comes in brown to cover those shiny stainless barrels.
I shot one last year with almost the exact same rifle and ammo. If you are not worried about holes in the fur, the IMI works great.

I am a HUGE fan of running/testing your gear in all conditions PRIOR to hunting/depending on it......however....I live in KY and while it does get cold.....single digits are not the norm.
Unfortunately I have not and will not have a chance to test my gas gun for reliability in single digit temps prior to this weekend where I am competing in a local coyote comp for some fun.
What are people's experiences with gas guns in single digit temps?
It's been a good season for coyotes. These are just a few remembered to take pictures of. So far I think I'm up close to 30 since December. The coyote in the 2nd picture weighed in at 43 lbs.
I've run them to -25. Just have some extra lube (that is rated to those temps) on the BCG, and if you have an adjustable gas block, maybe open it a hair more.
Who’s your daddy mating season time in KY was a good weekend here with the winter vortex that shot up through the Midwest.

When I ran a gas gun in any extreme cold conditions Ide just coat everything with slip 2000 it handles the temps ad keeps moisture from beading up and freezingGreat info! Thanks

How does it run all the way up to 100F?
We went almost non stop for 29 hours in ambient temps as low as 3F, over a foot of snow, I think 14 sets and over 500 miles ......didn't see a damn thing.
Some places are wild life management areas that may be hunted a lot. We are trying to get access to more private land.
KY recently changed hunting at night. A couple years ago they added night time hunting ok for the first time ever ...BUT......only December to March and ONLY with shotgun with no slugs
This year they kept time period the same but added center fire up to 6.5mm on PRIVATE land only.....night time on public land is still shotgun only
We had a good time none the less.
We hunted with a red spot light and fox pro. There's some NV literally on the way for some of the guys I hunt with.
I started another thread in the NV section asking for recommendations for getting NV set up on my Leupold MK4 spotter and I'll let the other guys get NV scopes for now.

No. It actually seems to help. It won't keep a suppressed AR any cleaner, but definitely helps keep it from gumming up, and it seems to help with getting the crap off during cleaning.
I’m also from KY western side. I’ve ran slip 2000 from -38 degrees out west hunting in the winter and the mammoth the last year it was at ky when it dipped down in the -degrees for most of the weekend then I’ve read it up to 100degrees in high humidity never been an issue it’s my go to lube now for anything gun related other than barrel cleaning and suppressor cleaning. Always ran suppressed never and issue there either.

The coolest coyote kill I’ve had to date.
We were hog hunting with thermal, and had just killed a sounder on a buddy’s wheat field. I had a smallish 45-50 lb hog take an ass shot from the 22 Creed on the run, and he continued over a terrace just out of sight. That’s when we heard him screaming holy terror while still shooting others. We walked up to the terrace to investigate, and found this coyote attacking him trying to get an easy dinner. It was a high humidity night, and the shots were 214 yds with a Thermion XG50 mounted on top of my 22 Creed.

What is your guys approach for trying to acquire additional land to hunt? With covid, I’m not sure people would like me knocking on their door to ask. This is farm land, where the owner does not live on the same property and lives in a different town per HuntStand/OnX.

A few decades ago when the fur market was better, a friend of mine used to hunt coyotes professionally in S.E. Oregon. He got tired of hearing the bullet thwack the coyote only to have it run off and loose it. So he bought two Borzoi dogs (Russian Wolfhounds) that he would take hunting with him.
As the Borzoi were sight hounds, he would watch the dog's noses and when both dogs pointed their noses in the same direction, he too would look there and would often see a coyote.
If he shot and hit a coyote and the coyote dropped into the sage brush to run off, he would release the two Borzoi to chase it down. He said that the coyotes would have to dodge around the sage brush, but if the sage was smaller, the Borzoi would just run over the top of the sage rather than having to go around it. He said it was like watching a fighter jet chase down a little piper cub airplane. When the Borzoi caught up with the coyote, the Borzoi would grab the coyote by the back of it's neck and flip the coyote over the Borzoi's shoulder apparently breaking the neck of the coyote.
Everything was working out great with the Borzoi until they got out of his back yard one day and ran down the neighbor's ankle biter dog...the Borzoi made short work of the little dog, so he had to get rid of the Borzoi for doing exactly what they were bred for and trained to do. It was a real shame, but I understood not keeping those two dogs in a residential area.

This is starting to be a good combo! I’m realizing that timing is everything with coyotes. May as well not go out unless it’s last 45 mins of daylight out here in western Washington. Started with a howling sequence. They answered so i figured go with the rabbit in distress. Nothing for about 20 minutes. Howled again and they answered. I mixed it up with a pup in distress and they came right in. Dropped it about 10ft from the call!

Pulled up to a new farm this morning and this one bolted from the hay barn. It crossed a fence and stopped and watched me load a round, aim and fire.
Thats a good way to get permission to hunt coyotes on private land! What are some of you're tactics in general for getting permission on farms?

I've done it, just not with a 300WM lol. The dog was 197 yards away there was so much fur floating/flying in the air, a lot of it made the entire way back to me.
