• Watch Out for Scammers!

We've now added a color code for all accounts. Orange accounts are new members, Blue are full members, and Green are Supporters. If you get a message about a sale from an orange account, make sure you pay attention before sending any money!

Lets start with Apple

It would prove interesting if the Domain Registrar took action, as they are NOW an international body, which allows some rather nefarious stuff, like child porn sites to keep their domain names.

Sorry, meant more like who they registered it with, GoDaddy, etc, not so much the international body. My terminology wasn't correct.

GoDaddy already has form in kicking folks off hosting if they don't agree with their politics.

Hi,

There is nothing on the planet that transmits data that cannot be hijacked by .gov types...nothing no matter what OS, make, model, manufacture, etc etc etc.

If you transmit data, it can absolutely be hijacked.

Sincerely,
Theis

I am a computer geek (to the extreme). I always try to look 3 moves ahead.

Trump was banned from Twitter and Facebook (and other platforms). His next move was to use a different service for communicating.
He talked like he would go to Parler. Apple and Android "controllers" Google yanked the Parler application from their stores, because parler refused to ban not just the president, but dozens of other conservative voices, some who had condemned the D.C. Capitol hill event. The bans were never JUST about preventing "inciting and violent words". Then, several geeks pointed out you could get to Parler without using an "App", just by using the web browser on the phones, and going to the webpage for Parler. Then Amazon's "Amazon Web Service Cloud" drew a line in the sand. They made the same demand of Parler, or they would remove the Parler Website from their servers. This would reduce the private company Parler to having NO way to reach it, even from Desktop PC. Parler is talking about moving to different servers. They get shut off at midnight tonight.

What will be the next move? If they do find another hosting company, you know the big players will try to crush whoever hosts them.
If that does not work, what then?
"Someone" will "pollute" the DNS servers. What does a DNS server do? It translates easy to understand names like WWW.amazon.com to an IP address (such as 13.224.46.101). Your computer actually only understands IP addresses, the human-readable name is just for the Human's benefit. If your computer cannot get an IP address from the DNS server, it cannot connect to that website.

If this does not trigger the biggest Antitrust suit in American History, then there is no justice to be found anymore.
There is no justice anymore

There are a lot of options out there. Some of them are cheap and require your time to understand. Some of them are expensive but they work without you tinkering. You can go without Apple, Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I will be accelerating my departure both personally and professionally where possible.
  • I've long been out of the Google/Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/etc business - nothing to do there.
  • I will be cancelling my Prime account.
  • I will discontinue ongoing personal services (such as iCloud, Apple music, etc) and refrain from buying Apple in the future. I thought they had the ability to stay out of the fray by being a hardware company but they inserted themselves where they don't belong.
  • At work, I've been demoing MacOS devices for general use. While Microsoft hasn't been in a position to make a decision and draw my ire, for now they are safe by process of elimination, so I will not promote a proliferation of MacOS here. At some point my options are limited professionally. This is about $250,000/year of endpoint asset rotation. Chump change for Apple but doing what I can.
  • I will end our DNS and certificate services at work from GoDaddy. We own over 100 domains and I think we constitute around $25,000 a year in business. Small potatoes but I'll do what I can.
  • I was discussing services with Cloudflare a few years ago when Alex Jones was booted. I told them that we are going another direction due to their censorship. I ensured they knew, those choices impact how I feel they may treat us in the future.
  • We currently use Shopify. It's a big player that keeps PCI off our radar. We'll look at alternatives since we are implementing a new ecom solution this year. Might as well start that up with a new payment services partner. Won't be PayPal or Shopify though. That is $50,000,000 in e-commerce they get to skim off a year so whatever they miss off that, oh well.
Some of these initiatives will take time, some can happen quickly. If you are in a position to have these conversations with vendors and can move away and send a message, do it. Make sure they know that you feel concerned that one day it will be you or your business and you don't feel you can trust doing business with a company that just rips up a contract for what they may feel is distasteful, yet totally legal speech.

That is exactly what I mean when I've said Apple is no good. They hit us, Trump movement supporters, we have to hit them back as far as money is concerned. At the end of the day, companies are all about money. Do not give money to them whenever and wherever you can. And, in case of "Apples", most of these things are made in China. Another reason for boycott of "Apples".

I thought about this a few days ago and I think I’m trading in my Apple Watch for a Garmin Tactix Delta! Seem reasonable to me. 😜
