Looking at purchasing said model scope. Searched the site but had very limited feedback. Has anyone compared them side by side against SB NF and such? Im specifically looking at the H58 model.

What do you want to know?
Glass Quality is good for a 50mm objective. Not as nice as my Premiers but still pretty nice.

It has a mechanical zero stop
10 Mils Per Rev
100 MOA elevation and 100 MOA windage.
Zeroing is pretty easy.
Parallax knob is marked only out to 400
Has a capped windage knob which I really like.
the windage knob also has windage stops.

The only thing I don't like is the push button turret, you have to push and turn push and turn push and turn..However you can disengage the button and have it "unlocked" so to speak.

In terms of build durability, I would take it over a Premier.

However if you want to hold out longer get the new Mark8 3.5-25x56 it has the H58 Illuminated, runs a 35mm tube, and has about 90 MOA internal elevation.

I have one, as well as a few Nightforce models. Like Franky asked, what do you want to know?

I don't find the locking turret a hindrance because of the Horus, although the zero stop is a bit different in that you can't set the scope to a specific 'click' value...the zero stop allows you to get to within around 0.5 mils or so of your zero and that's it. Once again, not an issue because I'm not dialing for the most part.

As for using the Horus H58, at 20x I have 9 mils on the vertical stadia visible, moving to 16x I have 12 mils available, and at 12x I have 18 mils. So, you can see the struggle between magnification and reticle subtension here. I happen to have this optic on a 20" 308 auto, and if I wanted to use the Horus exclusively without dialing elevation I wouldn't be able to use the optic on full magnification for a 1000 yd shot since I only have 9 mils available to use as a hold-over. I would have to either dump down my magnification or dial in some elevation and make sure I can still do math in my head. Depending on your usage it's just something to consider.

Re: Leupold 34mm MK4 M5 locking turret feedback

I love mine. I went with the H27 though over the TMR, Mil Dot, or H58. I had the H58 in the HDMR, and found there was alot of stuff on it that I dont use.

Clarity is very good. I really dont mind the locking turret, as stated above I mainly use holdovers. Durability wise, I would have to say it is "Built like a Brick Shithouse!" Comparing it to the NF I would give the nod to the Leupy. I have found that the parralax is extremely forgiving on the Leupy.

I really dont mind running below max power, as it gives me a broader field of view. Typically when I come off the firing line, my power is set around 16x-18x.

The only thing that I am having trouble with is the eyebox seems a little tight (when compared to other top tier scopes). I am not going to blame this on the scope though, because I am in the process of doing some mounting adjustments. I tried the QD mounts on my bolt gun, and it really threw my height overbore up there. I will update this when I get it on some low rings.

In closing, I would recommend this scope to other people.

It is the same scope on the M2010 (upgraded M24). I first saw one in the arms room of the benning school house and if it didn't have the L badge on it I wouldn't have believed it was a leupold. If your on promotive.com there on there and at a very good price. I actually ordered one to decide if I like the H58 or not. The glass is better than I have seen from any other leupold ever, I like the turrets (I have gotten away from dialing lately). They are being used extensively in country right now and I haven't heard any complaints sbout them.

Is this in the instruction manual? If not where can I find this info at?

Thanks

No not in the manual. When you take the cap off you will notice the button pushes down on that rod. So all I did was take a small wooden dowel and cut it to a length that would engage that rod. Dab some grease on one end stick it under the button and see if it disengages the lock or not. I built it so it was a little longer and took it off and sanded it down so it was perfect. The dowel I used was kind of skinny but I am going to machine one out of metal next. I will make some extra ones.

Re: Leupold 34mm MK4 M5 locking turret feedback

Franky,
I tried to pm you but you are over your limit. Let me know when you machine those, I would like to purchase one.

To the OP,
Sorry for hijacking your thread. Get the scope, I believe you will be pleasantly surprised.
