Even they misspell it?!?!?!

Re: Leupold Special Operations sniper scope

Guess they got tired of all the glory going elsewhere.

Even if it is traditional Leupold garbage, it'll still have that stellar warranty - so "WHEN" it breaks, they'll fix it fast!

Re: Leupold Special Operations sniper scope

Rancid: actually, despite that being my initial thoughts, they claim better glass though in a review done in comparison to the schmidt and bender. That's why I was asking if there was something different done to these.

Maybe......

From Poison123<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Only 20mils of adjustment.....is it me or is that a little low? </div></div>
It's in the neighborhood of 70 MOA. There's scopes with more adjustment; but I wouldn't call it low.

Re: Leupold Special Operations sniper scope

I've looked through the black version at the range, not near as snipery as fde, but a nice scope. The elevation knob is a little big for me, I would NEVER get one with the Horus reticle I saw since they just aren't my thing, but the glass was nice and the clicks were good too.

I'll be interested to see the price tag that they put on these things when release to the public, I'm guessing that they'll be in the range of a used or even new S&B, if so then that choice will be an easy one.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking.

The article says 30 mil total, with 20 usable on the knob.

Re: Leupold Special Operations sniper scope

The USSOCOM PSR contract submission is the only thing that has drawn Leupold into the 21st century, tactical scope wise. Every feature is specifically for that bid-locking turrets, Horus reticle, side focus, FFP, elevation to turn for the MER of up to a 338, etc, etc.

Here's a link to my USO 5-25 was was built for the submission, yet made with an MPR reticle instead, just in case they decided they really didn't like graph paper. The thread has the specifications for what the submissions need to have.

Re: Leupold Special Operations sniper scope

Well I hate to count any chickens here, but in the off chance these are built to as stringent standards as the standard competition, *and* they're priced reasonably (< 2K), I'd be very interested. Despite the mountains of hate Leupold gets, I *still* prefer the Mark 4 glass to almost all the rest I've seen. Mine has yet to fail me- hope it never will, and if this provides an alternative to the Nightforces- which I just don't like for personal reasons -we'd have a winner.

Of course, that's a lot of ifs

Alternative to Nightforce? A Leupold? And you prefer your Mk4 glass to what, specifically?

I am no Leupold hater, and if they come out with a scope that competes well with modern-era optics, I'll definitely give them a try; however, there is so much wrong with them now, it'd be a paradigm shift in the company to make something of high enough quality to actually compete in this market - on quality alone. (They compete now quite well on name and red-neck love-fest publicity.)

With what a Mk4 costs today, I don't see this being much of a real competitor unless A. they significantly drop the prices on ALL their other tac scopes, or B. they price this one such that it cannibalizes other Leupold options.

I see leupold as far too proud to do either of those, which means I'll be quite content to carry on without a Leupold product in my arsenal.

Opinions vary.

Re: Leupold Special Operations sniper scope

Is it just me, or is it complete bullshit that Leupold is still using a 3x magnification design? With competitors making 4x, 5x, 6x and more, the least Leupold could do is 4x. I like Leupold as a company, but they just don't seem to get it- either they're not listening to shooters or they just don't have the technology to compete.

I'm sure this scope would be like the CQBSS and in the $2k-3k range, in which case they'll get stomped by Premier Reticles.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Jon A</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Yeah, the 3X zoom ratio is disappointing. As is the eye relief changing 1.2" over the power range. It sounds like they stuck the same old optics into a 34mm tube. </div></div>

That is, unfortunately, what I suspected when I saw the magnification ranges - 6.5-20 and 8.5-25. Same as before.

Re: Leupold Special Operations sniper scope

this last week we saw the new 1-8X Leupold with Mil adjustments and Locking Turrets being used on a HK416.

The locking turrets were at least some of the better ones I have seen so far, in fact I liked their turrets better than the lift locks on the Short Dots the other rifles had. You squeezed the two locks to adjust the turrets and they only stuck out a bit. Decent design.

it had the Horus H27 reticle in that scope, which, I feel is completely wasted in a scope with such a low power range. Hopefully someone educates the bean counters and process pushers that you can do the same thing with any any mil dot scope and in most cases better because you are not beholden to the mess of lines in there that are too small at low power. I would have rather seen a heavy line purpose built TMR reticle instead of the horus, and trust me the guys using it wouldn't have cared.
