Rifle Scopes leupold VX3 scopes

I'm looking for a new scope for my 5r. I have been looking at the VX3 line from leupold. I was thinking about the 4.5-14 in the 30mm tube. What scopes compare to this in this price range? I was thinking about the duplex reticle and having a CDS or M1 dial added. I dont do any tactical shooting, but I do want to get out to 1000yds or so. Midway has a good discount on anything over $650 right now.

I have a SS 3-9 on my short tactical rifle, just wondering how it compares to the VX3. When did the MK4 series switch to the VX3 glass, or did it?

I am trying to decide whether to get another brand of optic or just get another SS 3-9 for this rifle to match my other one.

I have had about 6 vxIIIs built up and they are really good scopes and have never let me down. It will serve you well. I would strongly reccomend M1 turrets and the TMR reticle or mil dot(only because they do not have an moa reticle yet).

6.5-20 vx3 had m1 installed and tmr-Great scope that served me well(Plenty of moa to 1000yards. built up two of them).
1.5-5 with m1 and spr reticle-very cool little ar and carbine scope.(built up three and all three have worked very well!)
4.5-14 with m2 turrets 50mm and tmr reticle.(the m2 had a different click value and I did not like the m2 dials-this scope would take 38 moa to 1000 while the m1 would take 42moa, they were not calibrated the same and it drove me nuts!!)

Now after saying all of the above I much prefer my Nightforces and have sold off most of my Leupolds(still have the 1.5-5s though and probably will keep them.

I just ordered a 4.5X14X50 VX-3L Illum ret, B&C. Dealer cost was $780 and gun store is charging me $890. I figure everybody has to make 100 bucks or so on a scope; so I'm happy.

No CDS but don't really need it; scope going on 30-378. CDS is about $150 more from custom shop.

I would not buy a vx3 for that. If you're dead set on leupie look for a used mark 4, otherwise save your pennies for something better.

If you like the Super Sniper lineup the 10X HD model is supposed to be a decent scope for 8bills.

Also, what discount on 650 or more?

I have 3 Leupy 6.5-20X50 AO EFR VX III scopes and have never had a problem with any of them. Crystal clear with great resolution.

I just got 2 vxIII in 8.5-25 x50 they are very clear and have been working great. put then on a 300wm, nad a 338lm. i am going to have them fitted with m1 turrets and mildots soon. for the price 800 ea new couldn't pass them up. even with the cost of the upgrades its still a reasonable price.

Just to make sure everyone knows:
VX-III are the older models
VX-3 is the newer, updated model...quite a bit better according to several reviews. I certainly like mine.

I've been happy with my vx-III . I did send it in and have them install tmr reticule. The previous owner had already gone with the m1 turrets. It has performed well.

I have the VX III 6.5-20-40 with M1 knobs..It has served me very well.

I also run night force and would say I am a fan of NF..But two days ago at the range i was shooting both 308's one with the NF and the other with the Leupold. To my amazment the leupold was clearer. I could see my bullet holes much better with the leupold.

It must have been the light, but it was noticeable..Im still a NF fan due to reliability, but the Leupold held its own in clarity.

Those scopes I sold you actually are the newest VX-3 version. They are great glass for the money. As you know it's the one I use most.

I bought 2 VX3 8.5-25x50,s and both are clearer than the Nightforce NSX 5.5-22,s i just sold.
I personally think the Nightforce optics are very over rated and priced

The VX-3,s are not to shabby even when compared to my S&B 12.5-50-x56 PM11....especially when you factor in the price.

I have an older VXIII 6.5-20 x 50 LR/T M1(purchased before the lineup change). I wish I could find another!

That wouldn't be hard to make up a new one. We could probably make that happen for around $900 ish.
