I bought a used harbor freight blasting cabinet and I can't keep the light working. It has a 12 volt florescent drop light in it that has a 115v to 12v power cord. Couldn't I put a 115v florescent drop light in it and just unplug it when I want to turn it off? Is it necessary to have a 12v light in it? Thanks for any help.

Re: light for blasting cabinet

The light in my cabinet technically works but it isn't very effective. I've taken to wearing a headlamp and turning off all of the lights in the garage so I can see.

Re: light for blasting cabinet

I don't think a light inside is ever going to be perfect.
I have seen some blasting cabinets that had a good size glass window and they had a flush mount florescent light that directed all of it's light into the work area but was still outside and never was affected by the blasting media.
It worked pretty well.

Re: light for blasting cabinet

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give one or all of them a try. I cant see in there very good when the light is on, much less if it ever goes out. Thanks again.

Re: light for blasting cabinet

I have a grizzly blasting cabinet. The T8 light has never worked very well in it. I'm going to replace the light soon and I will pop a T5 HO in it. They're made for a high bay application and put out a good amount of light.
