Rifle Scopes Lightweight Varmint AR Optic???

I recently purchased a complete Daniel Defense light weight carbine V2. I originally was going to put a T-1 red dot on it because its small size and light weight. I am torn between the red dot for close range match type shooting and a light weight scope in a larue qd SPR mount. I am going on a prarie dog hunt in July with some friends and I will bring the AR among other scoped rifles. I am thinking the red dot will not be a good option for the hunt at all. What light weight scope would you recommend for shots out to 200yds on small varmint targets like prarie dogs...

I am considering Trijicon accupoint with the german cross hairs...maybe a vortex PST 2-10X... any other ideas?
My max budget on this optic is about $1000...

Burris Timberline 3-9

I personally run a Burris Timberline 2-7 with BDC (now discontinued) on mine. Give great short range to medium range shooting ability.

Redfield also makes a Revolution 2-7 with accurange reticle. I've played around with them and I think the tubes are nice but their glass is noticably darker than my Burris 2-7.

Trijicon probably got the best glass plus illumination out of the above.

I thought this as well, but if he wanted a red dot and this is just a backup varminter then maybe the 1-4 would be a better option. Both are great deals at $600 w/ mounts in the group buy.

Obviously the Vortex 1-4 in an option too, as is the Leupold Mark 4 2-8 possibly. Lots of options to think over for the OP.

I would probably consider a Trijicon 3-9x40 with MilDot in a QD mount of some sort. For close range stuff, you can put a small reddot at an angle onto the scope tube.

Alternatively, you could mount the scope in a Warne RAMP mount that has side rail for a small red dot.

+1 on the NF 2.5-10x or the NF 1-4X24 NXS. I got mine fron Jay at Sport Optics. Very helpful and fast delivery, no cost shipping.

I'm not goint to tell you I shoot like this all the time but these groups were shot with a Colt 6920 using handloads and a SWFA SS 1-4X24 at 500 yards. I have taken several Prairie Dogs with it past 300 yards.

The glass in this scope is excellent as are the adjustments. I have killed thousands of Prairie Dogs in the last 40 years and the Colt has replaced a nice CZ527 as my walk around gun. It is within your budget and may still have a group buy going. Good luck.

its confirmed.. the NF 2.5-10x is the cats asshole on shooting varmints on the AR platform... I am totally happy with the optic. I shot hundreds of P dogs most of em I was on 2.5 or 3x. Perfect AR optic guys! Thanks for the advise!

The Trijicon 3-9x is one of the lightest scopes you can get:

If you want further weight savings, the GG&G is one of the lightest 1 piece mounts at 5.5oz. Rings are even lighter.

Also, depending on the usage of the rifle, the Nikon M223's have the Monarch glass and are a great value, especially if you pick them up second hand on here (often under $300).

Just some thoughts.
