Hi all hide members :)
I have a question regarding a load. Yes, I did try to find it by searching here and on Google but I didn't actually find anything I could trust.

Since I've had a hard time getting hold of my regular bullets (Berger) I've decided to switch to Hornady A-max.

I'm in the process now of doing a regular ladder test but I still would love to get my hands on the manual suggested min. and max loads. Hopefully someone could help me out with that :)

300 win mag
Bullet: 208 gr A-Max
Powder: Norma MRP
Case: winchester

Thanks :)

Considering your are in Sweden, the best answer would be to call Norma technical support and ask them. That would be my first option. Other than than I would look at the data for the 200 SMK 300 Winchester Magnum - heavy - Norma

and try a load right near the middle and check for pressure. There is a variance of 2.4 grains of of powder(min/max) for only a change of 138 FPS of velocity. So no need to push the pressure to high as you will not recognize great increases in velocity.

The Hornady manual does not list Norma powder.

My suggestions are what I would do, use my advise at your own risk. Always follow published data.

Good Luck

Roggom,
I actually tried that... first I got stuck in line and the call god disconnected. After that I talked to a lady that asked me to hold... and then I got disconnected again haha. Sp, been there, done that and was hoping for some help.
I was actually thinking almost in the same way as you did. That was actually how I did loading my Bergers. Of course, keeping my eyes open for any pressure signs during the ladder test.

Thanks

Hopefully it works out. Another option is to obtain a copy of quick load. Input your Berger parameters then adjust for similar results with the amax. Sometimes quick load velocity will stray a bit from reality, but once a load is input, matching loads have done quite well.

You are actually right! I forgot that I even have quick load... So, hopefully I know how the result will be. But I think that I still need to do a solid ladder test just to obtain the maximum quality. Just so I'm thinking straight - lets say the oal to the ogive and all the other parameters are the same then it shouldn't be much difference in velocity right? Of course, I do realize that the accuracy and shot-to-shot consistency may vary. How is your experience with A-max? Do they regullary need jump or is better to keep them close to tha lands?
Thanks for the help :)

LRS,

Just make sure you measure a goodly sized lot of the AMAXs for ogive variation. I don't cry if they are within +/- 0.0025", and really happy when within 0.001". I've seen Hornady lots of bullets vary by 0.020", same with Sierras. They all worked fine once they were sorted.
