Looking at an 18"" SS in 5.56 or maybe even 20" .204 for my CQB MRP(5.56) to press it into p-dog,coyote,varmint use.

Having a hard time finding any feedback or reviews for 18in SS as far as accuracy claims. Anyone using any 5.56 16" or 18" LMT SS barrels, or the 20" .204.

I usually take .22-250 and .308 boltrifles, and an older AR with optic mounted on the carrying handle for dogs. A flat top upper would probobly be cheaper in the short term until I realized I had an extra upper laying around, then I'd be looking for a barrel and FF tube to build another upper anyway.

As an aside- does an 18/20 incher look funny hanging out the CQB upper?

    Pics?
    Thanks

Re: LMT CQB MRP 5.56 18in SS?

I've never installed my 18" barrel into the CQB upper, but here is a photo off an auction site.
    Looks fine, in my opinion.

My 18" barrel is one of the early 1/8 twist models. Later they were replaced with a 1/7 twist barrel.

My particular barrel was about 1.25 MOA with 77gr ammo, but dropped to sub-MOA with match 55gr ammo. For whatever reason, you just didn't see the accuracy results with the 1/8 18" barrel that the 1/7 16" barrel was getting by various users, myself included.

Re: LMT CQB MRP 5.56 18in SS?

I've got one inbound (arriving tomorrow). Mine will be in an MRP upper.
I hope to shoot it for accuracy on Friday, so I will let you know.

Only 4" difference between the MRP and CQB uppers, shouldn't look funny at all.

Re: LMT CQB MRP 5.56 18in SS?

Rock single point cut rifled 5R SS barrels and a one piece monolithic chassis yield really incredible results..so much inherit accuracy within that one piece chassis and then the Mike Rock barrels.

Personally I'm a traditional MRP guy in regards to keeping my cqb chassis for just that, and my rifle length models for light precision. It will work perfectly with a cqb chassis, however it appears to look rather funky...but looks are for chics:)

You could read all night long and perhaps not finish up the material Ive posted in terms of evaluating the MRPs...specifically accuracy/ammo evals on tons of various factory loaded ammo through all my MRP/Rock barrel setups, as well as extensive documentation and footage using my precision MRPs(16"/18" SS)at long range distances maxed currently at 900yds. I usually am on another forum and have lots of threads including one that would answer your exact question here in this thread regarding the SS barrels and accuracy evals. I hope it will be alright and at the very bottom of my reply I will leave a link to that specific thread left highlighted.

Re: LMT CQB MRP 5.56 18in SS?

Thanks for all the replies so far.

LC let me know what you think.
LMT's factory is about an hour drive for me so I think I'll just drive up and pick mine up when I get time.

Trident- Great videos, I'm heading to your link next. Good shooting btw. I did run across some of your pics in my searches, and was wondering which BUIS are yours outfitted with? The top rifle looks like A.R.M.S, and I know I've seen the bottom rear but can't recall the manufactuer. I like the A.R.M.S. #40P myself, not sure about thier 71L for the front though.

The CQB should save just a bit of wieght over the full length even if the 18" looks abit long out of it.
I stumbled onto mine at a local shop. It was bought new by an IL State Trooper through the same dealer and he only put a few rounds through it before he traded it in to get a revolver for S.A.S.S. It looked new when I bought it, and for $1100 for a complete LMT I couldn't pass it up.

    Thanks again.

It isn't SS as I recieved it just a plain ole 16" CL, but yes that was the price. And NO! I will not sell it to you.

I ran into the trooper that had owned it at the shop after I bought it. Nice guy, said he had owned serveral LMT's, and confirmed he had only ran a mag through it to ensure it was GTG.
Came with a cheap soft case, all the factory extras and an extra set of KAC rail covers. I talked them down from $1200 I almost felt bad for doing so. Almost.

Re: LMT CQB MRP 5.56 18in SS?

Thanks Halfnutz for the kind words, awesome deal on your pickup. I would absolutely love to see the LMT facility in Milan...kid in a candy shop is an understatement:)

As far as my irons goes, all of my recent and future builds will be wearing KAC micros, however I do still own and like the troys as well.

    Here are some specs...

Nice Builds! Once I did some looking I realized the sights were KAC, at least at the rear, very distinctive profile. As for BUIS the more I look the more I think I might splurg and look for some with tritium inserts. GG&G have a decent looking low profile and I think Troy had a tritium option too. It'll be the last thing I worry about.

The ADM Recon also looks like a nice mount, decently priced. Are you running the ones with 20MOA? I'm leaning towards a MARK AR 6-18, so with the 1" tube I figure the 20 MOA will be needed.

I'm still running factory trigger which isn't bad but, will get replaced once a barrel and optic find thier way home. My old rifle has a Jewell and I like it alot, but think I'll try something abit newer and go with the Geissele also.

Re: LMT CQB MRP 5.56 18in SS?

OK, got a chance to shoot the 18" SS MWS SPR today at 100yds.

LMT Lower, Magpul PRS stock, NF 2.5-10X32. Shooting off an Atlas bipod and Accu Shot monopod.

I only had 3 kinds of ammo, and only one of them was worth a damn for accuracy.

Hornady 55gr. TAP shot sub MOA, nice ammo!

Federal 55gr FMJ and Privi 75gr match were both 2-2.5 MOA.
(Post edited to show 75gr, thanks Trident)

I've got some SW Ammo RNG with 69gr and 77gr SMK coming, hope it shoots like the TAP.

I only got to shoot 200 rounds today, but expect this rifle to easily shoot around 3/4" or less at 100 with good ammo.

Re: LMT CQB MRP 5.56 18in SS?

    Halfnutz...the Recon X's are standard.

vereceleritas...the IWS complete lowers came from Lawmen's & shooters supply.

I really like the 55gr. vmax as well, I shot many cases of it through these barrels.

2-2.5moa for 55gr. FMJ is excellent imho...and while I have shot przi 69gr. and 75gr. match, Ive never heard of przi 77gr.

I only shoot the heavy stuff at long range.

Re: LMT CQB MRP 5.56 18in SS?

    Nice work, Trident!
Shot a MOA group with the 18" barrel in the rifle length MRP chassis & the NSX @ 500 meters with some 55gr BH Match loads the other day. This 1/8 barrel loves the 55gr stuff, just average with the 77gr bullets. I may have to get me a 1/7 18" SS MRP tube for the heavy rounds.

Re: LMT CQB MRP 5.56 18in SS?

Thanks Edwin, you were the main influence for my MRPs without question:)

You might want to hold off on that new 1/7 18" SS as LMT is about to release the 10.5" and 16" 300blk barrels.

Re: LMT CQB MRP 5.56 18in SS?

Thanks again LC. Did you order your barrel from LMT or somewhere else? Wondering if dealers have better pricing. I might be putting this on hold a little longer. A used 6.8 itch has appeared. Now I have to decide which one to scratch.

    Half,
I got it from LMT. I could have most likely gotten it cheaper from a dealer, but wanted it right away.

I'm really happy with the rifle. The furniture is OD, and now the SS barrel is OD Duracoat. Hope to get to stretch it out to some longer ranges soon.

Re: LMT CQB MRP 5.56 18in SS?

Thanks again LC, I've seen some other barrels on Gunbroker, there is a 204 ruger MRP barrel on there now for $399, which is slightly better than LMT.

I'm waiting til the end of the wek to decide which itch gets the scratch. The used 6.8 is a good deal. Decisions decisions.
