LMT MWS Cleaning Question

Good evening and Merry Christmas to all.

I'm new to the MWS and have a question regarding cleaning.

I've got a couple of hundred rounds through mine now and am getting ready to give it a thorough cleaning including the bore.

I've got a nice single piece coated rod, jag, etc but am wondering if those with more time on this rifle (and those like it) would recommend cleaning like normal with the barrel mounted or taking advantage of the system's ease of barrel removal and cleaning the barrel while removed from the receiver?

If removed would you still use some type of guide?

Thanks!

Re: LMT MWS Cleaning Question

Leave barrel in and use a bore guide/one piece coated rod. then remove barrel and clean the inside of the receiver, gas tube, and barrel extension if you must.

Re: LMT MWS Cleaning Question

I only remove the barrel after 400 rounds. I just use an .30 cal bore snake and chamber brush and rod. I have out 2500 rounds through my rifle. 1000 .308 and the rest is 7.62.

It's not saying much but I can still hit a 6 inch square steel hanger at 200 yards with ease. Farthest shots I took was 400 yards and went 17 for 20 on the same 6 inch steel target with the rifles round count at 2180.

I don't clean my rifle after every range trip either. I usually clean it after 2 or 3 trips which add about 350 or 400 rounds. This is how I roll and if its wrong then someone will let me know. Plus can always get another barrel and bolt in the next week or two. Hope this helps.

Re: LMT MWS Cleaning Question

So I too have a LMT mws. I want to know about removing the barrel. Will it affect the accuracy at all? Im kinda afraid of removing it because it shoots so well now.

Re: LMT MWS Cleaning Question

No it will not effect the accuracy what so ever due to the barrel can only go in one way. Make sure that you use the proper torque setting per the manual.
