Took the HCS / KAC MK12 Mod 1 clone out for the first time today since completing it on Christmas and noticed right off that the cheek to stock weld on the LMT SOPMOD isnt going to cut it. I was consistantly swimming around in the glass and trying to get the right weld/contact would have me blacking the optic out as the correct sightline was much higher. When getting a clear sightpicture I barely had any real reference point for my face and it was very inconsistant; i tested this with 5 round strings where I would keep perfectly still and not move as opposed to firing and then reloading or taking my eye out of the scope and would have an instant POI shift due to a lack of reference.

Getting lower rings isnt an option as I have the KAC BUIS on the rail and having the optic any further down would have it hit the rear BUIS. I would like to keep the BUIS on the weapon.

This leaves me with 3 different opions and wanted to see what everyones opinion on this was:

    - The optic I had on the rifle today was a Nightforce F1 3.5-15. This is usually on a 308 I have but was what I grabbed as the Nightforce 2.5-10 I have on order is not here yet. Since the 2.5-10 is a smaller optic, will there be any difference in how high/low it sits in the rings compared to the 3.5-15? This could technically remedy the issue, but is a guess at best.

    - Craft some sort of foam pad and 100mph tape cheekpiece to make up the difference. Only issue here I see is that the charging handle will most like interefere with this.

    - I saw a mod for the LMT that Lowlight had a demo video for and cant remember what it was called. Its practically an add on for the LMT stock that allows you to install a cheek riser onto the stock that does not interfere with the charging handle. I remember they were fairly pricey but the issue I had today reminded me of it and was curious if these were a gimmic or actually worked as well as held up to some abuse?

    Thats it, thanks.

While Im usually not one to buy mods or add ons, does anyone know if these are a gimmic or actually work and are put together to last? At least curious about them but not sold on it.

I have wondered the same thing since I don't have anywhere I can go check one out. I haven't heard much about them since they were introduced but they looked to be well made. I wouldn't mind hearing from anyone who has put a mile or two on one myself.

I think with a 3.5-15x50 the objective would be an issue before the ocular contacted the BUIS. You should be able to get a 2.5-10x32 low enough no problem.

Another option... a lot less than the SAPR.

If you sell the SOPMOD, you probably come out cash ahead.

I love my SAPR. Zero cheekweld issues since it's been installed. Way more solid weld prone and standing. Even better is with where I run the stock, I don't have to swing the riser/cheekpiece out of the way. Gets a smidge of contact from the handle coming back, but not enough to be a problem.
