Im wanting to load up some rounds that are as close to the same as the military uses in the m40s. Iv tried finding it online but getting to many different loads. Any info would be great.

Iv got precision loads for my rig. Went through over 200 different loads to do so. Its just my rig is an m40a1 clone and wanted to play and see what i can do with military loads used in this rifle in the military.

If that is your goal why not buy some m118lr? That is the ammo used...

Because if i already have brass primed and ready and most common powders on hand its cheaper for me to grab a box of projectiles at $30 bucks for 100 rounds then to go buy 100 rounds of m118lr

Do you have the right brass?

If yes, the 41.75gr of IMR 4064 and a 175 smk. If not, chrono a box of 175 FGMM, then load 4064 to match velocity

AB 39 is the better/newer match 308 round... its 43.0 of imr 4064 (different case capacity that the LC LR) in a FC case with i think its a federal primer... but i'd use a br2 if i were doing it myself. a 175 smk oal length at 2.825 ish. that gets you 2720-2740 in a 24" krieger 1:10

FGMM would not be the round to copy as a m118LR clone. its 50-100fps slower than m118lr. at least that's been my experience with 4-5 different 308s ive owned and shot both (real m118 lr and FGMM) through

From what I've seen FGMM 7.62x51 should closely match MK316 MOD 0, the replacement for M118LR.

I think M118LR should be RL15 and not 4064 anyways. MK316 I think is supposed to be 40-50fps slower, and more temp stable, which may explain you seeing up to 100fps difference

Edit: Actually it looks like 2700 fps for M118LR, and 2640 fps for MK316

M118LR was loaded with RL15 and the Sierra 175gr MK @2700fps.

The original load was too hot for the M14's, it was found the the RL15 is temperature sensitive which I also found out through my own chrono testing. A velocity spike of 51fps from April to August, so the charge was reduced by over 1gr.
